SENEGAL

Namibia 0-5 Senegal

"Senegal are through to the World Cup finals for the first time in their history after thrashing Namibia in Windhoek.

But it took a mighty effort from the Lions to ensure they closed out rivals Egypt, as they needed to win by three goals more than the Pharaohs to make sure of qualifying. Things seemed to be running smoothly when Senegal crashed in three goals in 16 minutes to go in at half-time 3-0 up. But they lost their way in the second half as Namibia piled on the pressure, and their hopes looked to be failing when Pape Sarr was sent off on 68 minutes. They somehow found new energy and grabbed two goals late on to leave too much for Egypt to do in Algeria." BBC Online

Senegal looked impressive in Mali 2002. They are a well-organised side and capable of giving their more illustrious opponents plenty to think about. Their main weakness could be an over-reliance on El Hadj Diouf who is the one player with the ability to create a moment of genius.
