COURSE TITLE:             Advanced Placement Psychology

COURSE PRE-REQUISITES: 

It is recommended that the course be limited to juniors and seniors who have successfully passed the regular Psychology course or received a teacher recommendation from the AP Psychology instructor to enter.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course traces the emergence of scientific psychology in the nineteenth century from its roots in philosophy and physiology and covers the development of the major “schools” of psychology.  Topics include the biological basis of behavior, sensation and perception, states of consciousness, learning, cognition, motivation and emotion, development, personality, psychological testing, abnormal behavior, treatment of psychological disorders and social psychology.

 

The course follows the necessary and required structure for students to be well prepared to take the Advanced Placement Psychology Exam given by the College Board.

 

This is a rigorous course and should be taken only after careful consideration.  It will take a big commitment on the part of the student to do well in this course.
