Resurrection

Introduction

Every character dies at some point. Some characters die more than once, but it’s not an event that should be taken lightly. Family members and Friends IC should morn the loss of a loved one in a similar manner in which we players morn the loss of loved ones IRL. What has this got to do with RP Combat? A lot. There’s no fun in beginning Duel Combat against an opponent only to find out somewhere along the way that the opponent can’t die. Power Characters can take the Fun out of the game in more ways than one. But because these texts are meant to deal with Combat specifically, Power Characters will not be discussed here. Instead, the guidelines regarding resurrecting a character after death so that he/she may fight again will be presented.

Resurrection

Combat RP is meant to be Fun, but resurrections are depressing. Unfortunately, resurrections are the only universally accepted practice within the realms of RP to bring a character back from death…parties just don’t make the cake. Therefore, like most procedures in Combat RP, guidelines for Resurrections should be followed.
Resurrections can actually be performed in two ways:

1. RP out the resurrection in Chat between TWO or more other characters. One character must perform the resurrection while the other character is there to witness the operation. If possible, save the transcript for historical purposes.

2. Write a detailed story about how the character was resurrected. Include:
A. How the character died
B. How the dead character was brought to the character that was to perform the resurrection
C. How the resurrection was performed
D. What other events took place during and after the resurrection that are important to the character’s history.

For the same reasons no one should be able to force a player to participate in Duel Combat(see Special Rules, Vow of the Pacifist), no one should be able to tell a player he/she cannot play a character. Therefore, there is NO RULE against resurrecting a character as many times as a player wishes. Though, it is a commonly accepted GUIDELINE that a character should be resurrected no more than three times.
Not every character in RP has the power to resurrect another character. Powerful Priests, Clerics, and some Wizards are usually the only characters that can perform such a delicate operation. Gaining the knowledge of which characters in RP can resurrect a fallen character must be done IC, because to pass on such information between characters OOC would be “Crossing Characters”(see OOC Courtesy and Other RP Etiquette).
Once a character has been successfully resurrected, he/she must rest for a period of several days, or even weeks, to gain back the physical strength that was lost during death. The character that performed the resurrection will also have to rest in order to replenish the lost energy spent to perform such a difficult operation.
If the dead character’s original body was damaged during the time of death, and the body was not repaired in some manner prior to the resurrection, the character may have to be resurrected into an entirely new body. A damaged body cannot be used in a resurrection without serious consequences. If such a ghastly event were to occur, players should RP it out properly. Use your imagination, be creative, and the depressing process of resurrecting a dead character will become much more enjoyable.
