Orkiestra sw. Mikolaja

Orkiestra sw. Mikolaja was created in spring 1988 in Lublin by a group of students who spent most of their free time hiking the mountains of Bieszczady and camping in the valleys of Beskid Niski. They travelled with their guitars and sang the traveller song by their campfires, but soon they learned the local Ruthenian musical tradition. This Ruthenian or Lomko music became the first repertoire of Orkiestra sw. Mikolaja. Later the band widened their interest gathering the music of the Polish lowlands as well as the mountains of the newly accessible (after the break-up of the Soviet Union) Ukraine. Since a few years they also publish a magazine dedicated to folk music, titled "Gadki z Chatki".
