ANTIOXIDANTS & FREE RADICALS

ANTIOXIDANTS and FREE RADICALS

Within our body, highly toxic by-products are formed when fat molecules react with oxygen. These highly reactive molecules, called free radicals, are necessary for normal biological processes. However, when they get out of control, they become very destructive. Just as oxygen is needed to sustain life, it also causes iron to rust, fruit to brown, and paint to harden and blister. Free radicals have similar bad effects on the human body.

What is free radicals?
The human body is comprised of millions of molecules. Molecules are the basic building locks of the elements of life, orbiting each molecule are pairs of electrons which hold the molecule together. A Free Radicals is an atom or molecule with at least one unpaired electron. This is a dangerous and volatile situation because it is a law of chemistry to fill in the missing electron. But to replace the missing electron the atom or molecule must rob an electron from a nearby atom or molecule. This robbing of electrons creates new free radicals which in turn creates a chain reaction that leads to the degeneration of human tissues, which is the cause of many diseases.

Every breath we take introduces millions of free radicals into the bloodstream. When we reach a certain age our bodies can not reproduce cells as fast as free radicals destroy them, thus the aging process begins.

Free radicals are the major cause of aging and general degradation of our body, particularly the collagen. Collagen s the fibrous protein that serves as the chief connective tissue in our body, it is found in ligaments, joints, tendons, veins and arteries. When our collagen is weakened, it causes many detrimental effects, such as weakening of the capillaries, wrinkled skin, and overall degradation of all human components and functions.

If left unchecked, it has the ability to attack and damage our cells and can lead to degenerative diseases such as Atherosclerosis, Cancer, Arthritis etc. It attacks the Immune System, and increase the Aging Process. The incidence of Free Radicals activities is compounded by today’s Industrialized Society where Pollution, Radiation, Toxic Chemicals, Pesticides & Herbicides used in agriculture; Chlorine in tap water; Alcohol abuse and Tobacco Smoking; Cured meats and fried foods, Lifestyles changes, Stress; and Infections etc.

What fights free radicals?
Antioxidants fight off free radicals. There are over 20,000 variation of antioxidant nutrients called bioflavonoides. Until recently, the best sources of antioxidants were Vitamins A, C, E, Zinc, Selenium, and Beta carotene. However, these antioxidants are generally not powerful enough, and often only small percentages are digested because most are not water-soluble.

Best Antioxidants - Proanthocyanidins Proanthocyanidins are 20 times stronger than vitamin C and 50 times stronger than vitamin E. It is water soluble so they can be absorbed by the body, especially if taken with the proper enzymes.

Proanthocyanidins are natural food supplements, there are no side effects. The body uses what it needs and eliminate any excess. Another important advantage of proanthocyanidins is that, unlike other bioflavonoids such as vitamins, they can cross the bloodbrain barrier to benefit the brain’s capillary network. That’s why they can improve your mental alertness and help to prevent senility. It also inhibits the formation of histamine without inhibiting useful enzymes. Histamines cause stress-ulcers, allergies, asthma, and hay fever.
