Unforeseen Admiration
I saw a butterfly hovering
in a pool of red, white and blue.
Fearless she danced from
flower to flower; taking time at each beautiful petal to savor the loveliness on
which she danced.
I spent two days watching
her move.
Two days of study.
Two days of admiration.
Never once did I see her
sway from the path that she had chosen, even with the attempts made by the
others.
In frustration I watched a
tall blade of grass attempt to spoil her dance; she danced true.
Birds tried to eat her, yet
she continued to dance.
The other butterflies tried
to affect her and she continued to flourish.
She held her head high even
when she rested.
At times she would converse
with the flowers, all the while speaking gently and politely.
I had never seen a butterfly
carry herself so consistently in such a respectful way.
I am smiling as I think of
her and this unforeseen admiration.
I am thankful to her.
