I'm trying to put together Family History and if you have some send it my way. Special thanks to Sharon McElfresh who did and is still digging for the Walsh Family History! New stuff is in red.
Thomas and Elizabeth Newbold-Walsh
Thomas Walsh was born February 7, 1795 in London, England. He married Elizabeth Newbold. She was born September 12, 1822. Thomas died April 23, 1865 and Elizabeth on April 9, 1895. They had four children; William Newbold Walsh (b. June 28th, 1851 - d. June 8th, 1866), Joseph Newbold Walsh (b. 1855 - d. 1931), Albert Newbold Walsh (see below), and Frederick Newbold Walsh (b. June 29th, 1861 - June 8, 1866). Notice they were all middle named Newbold.
Albert Newbold Walsh & Mary Elizabeth Peyton-Walsh
Albert Newbold Walsh was born February 5, 1859
in London, England and was married to Mary Elizabeth Peyton at Bishop Aucland,
England on May 26, 1877. Elizabeth was born May 6, 1860 in Newfield, England,
the daughter of James and Mary Peyton. She died in Rose Farm, Morgan County,
Ohio on March 25, 1934 at the home of her son, Joseph. Albert Newbold died
August 19, 1930 in Avondale, Muskingum County. Albert and Mary Elizabeth had 9
children. The two oldest children were born before the family came to America in
1884. The other seven children were all born in Ohio.
Their first child, Mary Elizabeth Walsh (b. March 20th, 1881 - d. January 31st, 1902) was 21 when she died. She was born in Littlebern, England. She did get married before she died, to a Charles Hankison on Christmas Eve 1897-8 in Perry Co.Ohio. FROM MICHELE: Charles O. Hankinson was born 1860, and died January 17, 1940 in New Lexington, Ohio. He is buried in Maplewood, Shelby, Ohio. They had one child that I know of named Mary Ella Hankison. She was born in 1899 and died August 11, 1967 in Bristol, Pike Co., Ohio. She is buried in Maplewood, Shelby, Ohio. Charles' parents were Adam and Elanor Starner Hankison. NEW August 24 Ancestry.com: Mary E. Hankison Census 1910. Mary is shown living with her father, Charles, who is now 50. Mary is 10. Also living with them are: Adam, 74, Elenor, 73, and Adam J. Hankison, 9. So I'm guessing Mary Elizabeth had another child directly after Mary. That makes Adam J. born abt. 1901. They are living in Pike, Perry Co. There are others living close to them; Simeon, b. 1851, Edith, b. 1850 (they were married) Hankison. And their daughter Goldie, b. 1891
Albert and Mary's next child was James E. Walsh (b. November 29, 1882 - d. October 30, 1912) He was born in Dunbar, Scotland and died in Monroe Township, Perry County, Ohio. He was 30 when he died.. He married Elizabeth Coble on Christmas Day, 1902 in Perry Co. Ohio. He married again to May Murray. FROM MICHELE Either Elizabeth or May had at least one son with James named Lester who went on to marry Maple D. Lester was born in 1904 and died 1944. I believe Maple went on to marry another.**New Information** 8-2-2006. According to the 1930 Riverside, CALIFORNIA Census Lester married a Maple I. and his father was born in Scotland. According to the 1910 Ohio Census it listed Lesters mother as Mary and the other house members were: James-27, Mary-22, Lester-7 and Helen 8/12. California Death Information lists Lester as born 1-25-1904 in Ohio and died 11-7-1944 but that his mother's maiden name was KOBLE.
Their third child was Joseph Walsh (info below under his name).
The fourth child was Thomas Walsh and he died very young. He was born February 10, 1887 in Glouster, Ohio and died March 7, 1887 so he was only less than 1 month old when he died.
Samuel Walsh (b. February 10th, 1888 in Coal Twp., Perry Co. - d. February 28th, 1947)was their fifth child to be born. He was born also in Glouster, Ohio and notice he was born on the exact date Thomas had been born, only a year later. He died in Milligan Bend, Perry County, Ohio. Samuel married Elizabeth Fluhart. He was 59 when he passed. FROM MICHELE: Elizabeth was born February 25th, 1892 in Coal Twp., Perry Co. Ohio. Sam and Elizabeth were married on February (noticing a trend here)19th, 1907 in Perry Co. and had James Walsh (b. 12- 28 -1907 in Crooksville, Ohio. d. 1-15-1978 Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio) He is buried somewhere in Crooksville. Elizabeth's folks were Benjamin and Lydia Mitchell Fluhart. What is interesting is that Benjamin's parents were John M. FLUHARTY (with the Y. Now why was it dropped? There are Fluharty's still in Perry Co.) and Catherine Lanning. Sam and Elizabeth had six children; Elizabeth, Ruby b. April 1898, Ella b. September 1894, Lula b. September 25, 1892, Frank b. November 1889, Benjamin November 7, 1890. Also note that Nellie Dobb's brother George ALSO married a Fluhart. Ella to be exact and she was Elizabeth's sister. I did find this obituary
for Samuel in the Zanesville Signal March 1, 1947:
Albert Walsh, the couples sixth child was born August 24th, 1890 in Trail Run, Ohio and died on a year, four months and a day later on Christmas Day 1891.
On December 30th, 1893 Albert Newbold Walsh (the second I guess), the seventh child, was born in Shawnee, Perry County, Ohio. He was married to Esley Lavina Folden on April 14th, 1912 and then to Rozella Belle Franklin (1890 - 1960). He died December 17th, 1953 in Crooksville, Perry County, Ohio. He was 60.
Albert and Mary's eighth child was John William Walsh (b. July 10th*according to SS records., 1899 McCuneville, Ohio - d. December 6th, 1967 Newark, Licking County, Ohio) He married Bernice Cloe McCabe on Halloween 1918. He was 68
Charles Henry Walsh was number nine. He was born August 10th, 1901 in McConeville, Ohio and died May 15th, 1978 in Florida. He was 77 when he died. He married first to Eva Eveland on January 16th, 1919 and then to Lucy Cooper (date unknown).
At one time, Albert ran a grocery store on Main Street in New Lexington. He was also a preacher. He once preached at Buzzard’s Glory. A man that knew Albert told me that Albert walked from Rosefarm to the church at Buzzard’s Glory in all kinds of weather, muddy roads and all. He had to almost beg the congregation for enough money to buy oil for the lamps at church. Albert and Mary Elizabeth lived several places through the years, including, Santoy, McCuneville, Shawnee, New Lexington, Caldwell, Roseville, Rosefarm and Avondale to name a few. They lived in Avondale when Albert died in 1930. My dad told me that he remembers going with Grandma and Grandpa to McConnelsville with Aunt Maude and Uncle Charlie to be married and then they all went to Caldwell to visit his grandparents.-Sharon McElfresh

They went by horse and buggy from Santoy to New Lexington to get married. Good friend of theirs; John and Lillie Omen went with them. Nellie, as everyone called her, was born April 23, 1885 in Rendville, Ohio. She died May 30, 1973 at the age of 88 yrs. 1 mo. And 7 days at the home of her daughter Viola in Rosefarm. Maude Louise was born October 9, 1905 in Santoy and married Charles McIntyre (for the McIntyre line click here) on September 23rd, 1922 in McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio. Maude died on March 13th, 1979 in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Charlie was born in Murray City, Ohio November 3, 1901 and died July 27, 1967 in Malta, Morgan County, Ohio. Charlie's parents were John "Jack" McIntyre and Ellen Watkins.
Elizabeth Edith was born March 14, 1908 in Rosefarm and married Clarence Colbert May 6, 1932 in Greensburg, Pa. Elizabeth, or "Bebe", as the family knew her by, died September 26, 2000 in Newark, Licking County, Ohio. Clarence was born April 19, 1905 in Buchtel, Ohio and he died January 14, 1970. His parents were Michael Colbert and Mary Jane White.
Edith Viola was born July 9, 1910 and married Carl Thomas on May 1, 1933 in Roseville, Perry County, Ohio. Viola or "Biba" as we have always called her died August 31st, 2004. Carl was born November 30, 1911 in Misco, Perry County, Ohio and died April 12, 1972. His father was David Stewart Thomas and his mother Olga Stewart.
Earl Joseph was born August 30, 1912 in Rosefarm and married Inez Willison on August 11th, 1933 in Ohio County, Wheeling, West Virginia. Earl died June 7, 1993 in Newark, Licking County, Ohio. Inez Irene Willison's parents were Roy Everett Willison and Elizabeth Elenora Street. Inez died February 7, 2000.
Elizabeth, Viola and Earl were all born in the house in Rosefarm that their father had built.
Joe and Nellie were members of the Rosefarm Church of Christ; Nellie was a charter member. They lived most of their lives in Rosefarm and didn't understand why anyone would want to live anywhere else.
