THE SPENCERS

William Spencer married a Mary A. Young. From information I have gathered, in 1860 he was 27 and she was 25, making her only two years younger than him. Together I am speculating that they had Sarah Elizabeth, Lydia, Albert, John W., and Joseph C. Spencer. From information gathered from census information it seems to me that Mary died btw 1861 and 1880. I do not have census information for the year 1870. But when William pops up again the 1880 census, he is married to Sarah F. Spencer. The following are, I believe, William and Mary's children: Jesse, Wesley, Mayme and Carrie. I say this due to obituaries stating half brothers and sisters. In the 1880 census it states William as being 46 and Sarah F. as being 30 which makes her younger than Mary would have been, about 15 years younger. So that leads me to believe that the below photos are both of William but one is with Sarah and one is with Mary. The dark haired lady, I believe, would be Sarah seeing how she was much younger than William (16 years or so).

What I have for the Spencer's is not a great deal of information but I'm putting down here what I do have. If you have other information, please contact me. I'm always looking.

These photos were sent to me by Robert Hill, cousin to me. These two would have
been Roberts G-G-Grandparents and my G-G-G-Grandparents.

William (b. abt. 1833) and Mary A. (b. abt. 1835)(I believe both were born in Ohio) Spencer had the following children:

Sarah was my great great grandmother. If you follow this icon: , it will lead you through my side of the family.

Sarah Elizabeth Spencer-Anderson (b. 11-1861- 10-15-1932)
Lydia Spencer-Bennett
Albert Spencer
John W. Spencer (b. abt. 1860)
Joseph C. Spencer (b. abt. 1855 - 12-19-1937)

And there were four half brothers and sisters (from Sarah)

Jesse Spencer

Wesley Spencer

Mrs. Mayme Spencer-Rox
Carrie Spencer-Richardson

Tidbits of other information from newspaper articles are telling me that there might have been another brother named Thomas and a sister named Elsie. I'm really not sure which of the brothers and sisters were half and which were whole for William and Mary. I'm working on this though.

A newspaper article I found tells me that William had a brother named Nathan. Please click here to read the Reunion Article from the The Times Recorder September 9, 1926. Click here for other miscellaneous newspaper items.
