Karen Sayer has been posting some reports of initial visits to the list.
For those who missed them here are some of her comments. CONGRATULATIONS TO WENDY AND PIERE ON THEIR FIRST VISIT TO THE ADVENTIST RETIREMENT VILLAGE YESTERDAY! This was the longest first visit ever at over 2 hours of pretty much constant pats! And Piere was a star throughout! He loved the pats - almost as much as the residents loved patting him! His fluffy tail was a great source of amusement- as was his name! One lady in the dementia ward named him 'Jolie Piere' [pretty Piere] and recited poems in French to him! Oh La La! We met lots of lovely residents, staff and visitors including a lovely lady aged 101 years who had Piere snuggle up in bed next to her. Wendy plans to visit every week and everyone was thrilled to know they were coming back. It wasn't an easy first visit-It was very full on - locked dementia wards with 7 digit codes, unsure new residents, other dogs, angry residents throwing hot tea around and visitors in tears- still grieving the loss of their dog to describe just a few. However, Wendy and Piere took it all in their stride! Comforting those who were sad and bringing lots of smiles all round! Congratulations to this truly bomb proof team! Karen Sayer
Yes its true Mike and Karri were stars in Hollywood yesterday! -Hollywood aged care in Nedlands that is! It was a very scary first visit unlike any other where we were thrown to a mob of 25 residents at one time! They had been playing a kind of bowls and were sitting so as to make a long human 'tunnel'. While they weren't as 'pumped' as a footy crowd it was still scary stuff! True to form Karri- bombproof beauty that she is, gave herself willingly to the crowd for pats and cuddles and then after showing off her range of tricks did a lap of honour receiving biscuits as she went! Hollywood is a very large facility [over 1000 beds], so Mike and Karri will concentrate on 2 hostels initially. We did have a quick visit to the nursing home but the staff had not been informed of our visit and were too busy to introduce us to their residents. [It really makes a difference when you have a good introduction to the residents by a staff member who knows them.] Karri met some lovely people at Hollywood and struck up a special relationship with a lovely Scottish lady with an endless supply of biscuits! Its Jenny Craig for you soon girl! Mike charmed the ladies at afternoon tea and they are all looking forward to his next visit- without his 'wife' as I was mistakenly labelled! [Very flattered- don't tell Chad!] CONGRATULATIONS MIKE AND KARRI ON YOUR FIRST VISIT TO HOLLYWOOD- YOU ARE BOTH STARS! Karen Sayer Events Calendar
