We have two profiles for you this issue. Both are driving forces behind WA Pet Partners and I'm sure you will be interested to find out more about
Melissa Hood and Karen Sayer.

Name:   Melissa Hood
Occupation:   Quarantine Officer (about to become Quarantine Detector Dog Handler)

Other Pets:  Three cats - Wobbles, Bubbles & Kiara
Dog's Favourite Food: Polony!!!
Favourite Dog Games: Where's the bickie! (Sally) ...Run Away with Mums Socks (Sage)
Favourite Dog Places:  Sally loves the beach and Sage loves going to the lake with her pal Tess.
Background with dogs: I have spent the past 10 years working in the animal industry. Initially working in boarding kennels I then spent 8 years working for a group of Veterinary Hospitals, initially as a dog groomer and then as a qualified veterinary nurse. I spent the past 2 to 3 years working in the hospitals as a Practice Manager and then Senior Administrator. I started up Leaders Dog Training 12 months ago and have been teaching small groups of people how to train their dogs using positive reinforcement and left the veterinary hospital to run my own business in March of this year. I am studying the Certificate IV in dog behavioural training through the Delta Society - a fantastic, 15 month course, in which I spent an amazing week in Sydney with 70 students 60 dogs and some very inspiring trainers (one of who was Karen Damiani)! I have recently closed down my dog training business to pursue a career with quarantine. I was lucky enough to gain a position at the international airport as a Detector Dog Handler and will be off to Sydney in January for two months to train and be matched with a Beagle! With Delta WA and my new job I am looking forward to a very exciting, rewarding and busy year ahead!

Name:   Karen Sayer
Occupation:   I was the marketing co ordinator for an animal health company until recently. For the next few months I will be the Delta co-ordinator locating facilities for everyone.
Dog: Hugo (18 mths Lab - yellow )
Other Pets:  One understanding husband - Chad
Dog's Favourite Food:  Anything! He's a lab
Favourite Dog Games:  Hide and Seek (but he cheats by not always counting to 100!)
Favourite Dog Places:  Canning River, Roleystone - just off Thomas Road/Brookton H/way
Background applicable for Delta:  I worked for 5 years in the UK for a human pharmaceutical company visiting doctors surgeries, pharmacies, and all kinds of hospitals through Scotland. After 2 years travelling around the world chasing aye-ayes in Madagascar, gorillas in Africa, tigers in India and dragons on Komodo, I came to Australia for the dolphins, met Chad and stayed. I then worked in the vet industry for 5 years here and have an interest in all things "wormy"; dogs behaviour and especially how dogs make us healthy. After contacting Delta in Sydney last year to find out about Pet Partners - I am amazed, delighted and terrified with how it's grown! It's great to know so many other "dogomaniacs" who are willing to share their canine family with others!
