Confederates will be portraying the 8th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment. 
The number of CS participants will be restricted to 100 men.

8th Georgia Infantry Authenticity Standards

I. Jackets
1. Preferred: Richmond Depot Type III and Peter Tait imports in blue/gray or dark gray English
Cloth
2. Acceptable: a.  Richmond Depot Type II in Jean, Cassimere, Satinette, Kersey  b. Confederate Govt. Issue “Sack Coats” i.e. “Brooke jackets” in Jean, Cassimere, Satinette  c. Civilian Sack Coats in proper period material and construction  d. Frock Coats in Jean, Cassimere, Satinette (untrimmed)

II. Trousers (Trousers)
1. Preferred: a. Richmond Depot Issue in Jean, Cassimere, Satinette, Kersey, English Cloth, or Sky Blue
2. Acceptable:  a. Civilian work trousers, Relief Association trousers in Jean, Cassimere, Satinette,  Kersey, Broadcloth. Trousers in this 2nd category may have checks, stripes or other weave patterns. b. Federal Trousers in the correct arsenal/contractor construction and color
(Only a few in number, i.e. extremely limited.)

III. Headwear
1. Preferred:  a. Civilian Pattern Slouch in correct construction and color
2. Acceptable: a. Richmond Depot Kepi b. Federal dress hat, i.e. “Hardee”

Prohibited:  Federal Forage Cap, Confederate Forage Cap, Stove Pipe, hat brass, coon bones, ostrich feathers, squirrel tails or other animal parts.  Hats and caps should be plain and unadorned.
Note: Visors on kepi shall be turned up or left flat. The bill/visor of the kepi must not be bent or turned like a modern baseball cap. Hat cords, while seen on some period hats, are not
preferred.

IV. Shirt
Civilian pattern in woven check, stripes, or solid. Printed civilian pattern in correct colors.
Federal issue shirt in brown, blue, gray, red, white. English army shirt. Undershirts of the correct pattern and material may be worn in lieu of a shirt.

V. Socks
Cotton or wool in correct pattern and color. No elastic.
No modern athletic socks and hunting socks are acceptable.

VI. Drawers
Cotton or flannel drawers in correct pattern. Civilian style or Federal pattern or  no drawers. (A matter of personal preference.)

VII. Braces/Suspenders
Civilian styles in correct pattern, four tabs or six tabs. Cotton, linen, wool, jean,
leather, tapestry material, correct period elastic.
Modern suspenders of any type unacceptable. No chrome fittings or rivets on leather tabs. A properly constructed civilian belt may be worn in lieu of braces.

VIII. Waist belt
1. Preferred: a. Richmond Depot Infantryman's Roller Buckle (on painted cloth)
2. Acceptable:  a. Georgia Frame b. Forked Tongue c. Roller Buckle on Leather
d. British Coiled Snake
No CSA Buckles, State Buckles, Other Early War Buckles

IX. Cap Box
1. Preferred: a. Richmond Depot
2. Acceptable: a. Imported Enfield Pattern b. Federal Issue

X. Cartridge Box
1. Preferred: a. Richmond Depot Box 
2. Acceptable: a. Federal Issue Box.   Boxes must contain tins.

XI. Bayonet Scabbard
1. Preferred: a. Richmond Depot

2. Acceptable: b. Federal Issue.  All scabbards shall have finials.

XII. Haversack
1. Preferred: a. Confederate Issue

2.  Acceptable:  b. Federal Issue c. Home-made haversack in linen, ticking, linsey-woolsey, shirting material, carpet material.

XIII. Knapsacks
1. Preferred:  a. Richmond Depot Soft Pack b. Kibler Pattern  c. Isaac and Campbell
2. Acceptable:       a. Federal Issue double bag knapsack
Prohibited: Hardpacks or Berdan issue not acceptable.
Blanket Rolls are acceptable if participant chooses not to use a knapsack

 XIV. Blankets
1. Preferred: CS issue

2.  Acceptable:  US issue; Civilian blanket in Jean or Wool; Coverlets,
Hospital Blankets, Parlor Blankets, Gros-Grain Carpet, North Carolina State issue.
Note: Quilts and throws should be in the pattern seen before and during the Civil War.
US horse blankets are acceptable in limited numbers.

Prohibited: Any blanket which exhibits modern end stitching.  This must not be present.

XV. Shoes
1.Preferred: CS Issue or English imports

2.  Acceptable: US issue, civilian styles

Prohibited:  You may not go barefoot. No boots.  Applies to enlisted and officers alike.

XVI. Canteen
1. Preferred: CS tin drum, wood.

2.  Acceptable:  US Bulls Eye or Smoothside.

XVII. Ground Cloth
1. Preferred:  a. Painted Cloth/Canvas
2.  Acceptable: b. Federal Issue c. US Shelter half used as a ground cloth
Ponchos are discouraged

XVIII. Weapons
1. Preferred:  a. .577 Enfield
2. Acceptable: b. .58 Springfield c. .58 Richmond
3.  Discouraged: Smoothbore .69 cal shoulder arms; however, if your only musket is a smoothbore, please bring it.
Prohibited: Two-band rifles, knives, pistols.  (Officers may carry pistol at their discretion.)

UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT INSPECTION;  MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS

Participants shall have uniform and equipment inspected by the event organizers and military commanders (company officers and NCOs) to ensure compliance with the authenticity standards. No modern items, especially including modern food, are to be carried into the event site. Any required medications shall be concealed in period containers.  Muskets shall be cleaned using period correct tools, techniques and supplies. Cigarettes shall be confiscated and destroyed if found. Cigars, pipes, snuff, and chewing tobacco are the only acceptable substitutes.  Modern eyewear/glasses are strictly prohibited.

Alcoholic beverages and any illegal substances are strictly prohibited. Violators will be asked to
leave the event and may be subject to prosecution by any state or federal law enforcement as appropriate.  Incidents will be reported to the appropriate authority.

Participants shall be prepared to serve under military discipline and are expected to follow the orders of those appointed over them.  Failure to do so will be addressed as appropriate, including ejection from the event.
