What is the SIGN?

There are many interpretations of the SIGN. In medieval times it appeared as the mystical symbol we know today. From the 11th to the 13th century its appearance was often associated with natural disasters and casualties. Every time it appeared – i.e. as an alignment of stars, a vision or on a wall or in a field – an accident happened. It was seen as a very bad omen.

But the SIGN was also known in pre-Christian times. And its meaning was also one of doom and horror. In the so-called Gilgamesh epic, which was written over centuries during the Babylonian times several thousand years before Christ was born, the SIGN was already mentioned. Below there is an image from the epic, about 2000 years B.C.

The SIGN also appeared during the Assyrian empire, which had its greatest power under Emperor Tiglatpileser III. (745 – 727 B.C.), on old writing plates and papyrus scrolls. A lot of these were destroyed during the great fire in the legendary library of Alexandria 272 B.C. or perhaps even as far back as 640 B.C. during the Arabian conquests.
Since the 19th century the SIGN has also been associated with the so-called „Möbius Band“, which is formed by joining twisting the ends of a rectangle (180 degrees). It only has one side, without a beginning and an end. It is also the sign for the infinity. (See also Theories) Das Zeichen für die Unendlichkeit.

What is the SIGN? I have been dealing with this phenomenon for a long time and although I have found a lot of clues I still haven’t come to a clear result. Then again, what is superstition and what is science?
