The 'Word of the Week' is:
"Miscellaneous"
I started the 'Word of the Week' because I decided to. I will now examine the properties of this week's word.
Firstly, it sounds nice. The more you think about it, the better it sounds.
The word has a slightly awkward spelling. Although I knew the correct spelling, I wasn't confident of it. Note the 'sce', 'll' and 'eou'.
Lastly, I considered a miscellaneous item to be one which does not belong to a main group. The word may have subtle connotations of unimportance, but I doubt the existence of these connotations. My dictionary said something similar to this:
'miscellaneous/adj.1. of mixed composition or character. 2.(foll. by a plural noun) various kinds.'
So, whilst I was on the right track, I was wrong. A miscellaneous item would not 'not belong to a main group'. It would belong to two or more groups. Paper cups are both catering and non food items. Sunny Delight belongs to provisions but is also a soft drink. Chu Chu Rocket is both a puzzle game and a party game. Obviously, personal judgement must be used, otherwise, (nearly) everything could be miscellaneous.
