Tom
Watson has over 30 years of experience in
the Information
Technology (IT) industry involved in computer R&D, computer sales and
managing IT in large, medium and start-up companies.
He has a unique mix of strategic, hands-on technical and management skills.
Leading-edge Technology
Tom
has always been involved in developing and implementing leading-edge technology.
At IBM, he was one of the original designers of the revolutionary S/38 (AS/400)
operating system and its integrated
data base. At Physio Control, he was responsible for implementing calendaring and e-mail
before most other companies. He led the
internal development of a JIT manufacturing system for Physio because no third
party package was available at the time.
At
Eli Lilly & Company, he led a team in developing AI expertise for Lilly as well as a very
early desktop video conferencing pilot. He was selected to create an internal
Client/Server consulting group which supported
the Lilly team implementing PeopleSoft’s first DB/2 HR implementation.
At
ConneXt he led the consolidation and outsourcing of Puget Power and Washington
Natural Gas' mainframe IT organizations and was involved in developing and implementing services for networked
utility meter reading and assessing the technologies being developed by the
various meter reading vendors. He was also responsible for development of a new
application providing automated utility bill paying service for companies as
well as a $20M CIS application development project.
At
NCMX he was a founder, the CTO, the designer and the developer of all NCMX services and
the technology environment.
NCMX provides leading-edge, PC inventory, software install, update and removal, and
antivirus services. All of them are heavily automated and performed remotely.
Recently,
Tom has been enjoying himself through keeping busy with his consulting company
(Technology Advisory Services) by:
· Providing
nationwide consulting, such as in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
· Providing
website design and maintenance for a number of companies
· Acting
as an interim CIO with a Seattle company
· Providing
PC Support for small companies and individuals on Bainbridge
Island and
downtown Seattle
· Teaching
a senior-level Information Systems Networking class at the
University of
Washington Business School.
Management
Tom
has been in IT management over 25 years. He has both managed and grown existing IT
organizations as at Physio Control and Lilly, and created new organizations as at NCMX,
ConneXt and Lilly’s Client/Server department. He has managed mainframe,
mid-range and PC/LAN IT environments. He has re-engineered job descriptions,
salary surveys and appraisal procedures. He led Lilly’s re-engineering of its
project management/application design process. He led the IT due-diligence team
for a $6B acquisition and developed a 10 year, $100M IT services contract and a 2
yr. $20M application development contract. He is considered by many to be an
expert on management processes.
