This old street marker now stands outside the Lakehurst Historical Society Museum. The roads are the Toms River-Trenton Rd., probably today's County Route 571, and the Lakehurst-Alligator Rd. The Alligator is a ridge in northern Ocean County, but I am not sure of the road's present-day name or even whether it still exists.

I doubt there is an older road sign in New Jersey than this one on County Route 612 about halfway between Allamuchy and Johnsonburg in Warren County. The inscription reads "2 To LG". Johnsonburg was originally known as Log Gaol ("gaol" is the British spelling of jail).

These sign assemblies stand at Bordentown and S. Pine Aves. in South Amboy, NJ. This was the original route first of US 9, then NJ 35, and was, in the pre-Garden State Parkway days, the main route to the Jersey Shore; both now bypass the city. The Old Bridge arrow sign is extremely rare. There is a similar set of signs a block away at Stevens and Bordentown Aves.
