Fire Safety for Those with Disabilities
The following was copied from the "Firefighters' Corner" column of the August 08, 2006 edition of The Vanguard newspaper.
1. Have a good escape plan.
2. Practice your plan at least twice a year.
3. Consider having a ramp constructed.
4. Install smoke detectors. Test monthly. Change batteries yearly.
5. Sleep near a phone.
6. Make your fire department aware of your disability.
7. Keep a flashlight handy.
8. Test doors before you open them.
9. Crawl under smoke.
10. Wait by a window if unable to escape. |
