Many people ask me about my high speed Internet service, Sympatico. My connection is an ADSL service (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) from the local telco, Bell Canada, that offers great service and solid value-added components. My connection is stable and reliable as are the various services (webmail, e-mail, web space, FTP, etc.).

It seems that the first thing people want to know once they get high speed connections is, "How fast is it?". There are several tools on the web that enable you to test your broadband connection, and I regularly use four of them and take an average. I will periodically post new data here, but in the interim, feel free to follow these links and test out your own connection speed.

Update Aug.2004: I ordered one of the new SpeedStream ADSL modems from Bell, which replaced my old Nortel 1 Meg Modem, and installed it. Bell Sympatico promised an increase in speed with the new modems - and I am pleased to say they have delivered!

Please note: These speeds are measured in kilobits per second, not kilobytes. There are 8 kilobits for evey 1 kilobyte. Modem speed is measured this way, so for example, if your browser indicates that you are downloading at 50k (kilobytes per second) you are achieving 400k (kilobits per second).
