Saturday, August 17, 1889

I went out to Sauk Rapids to get examined for a school

teacher. I waited all day there but did not see the Supt. Well I

am going to try again. I stayed three nights with Charlie

Hubbard. Lizzie Warner and I do not get along very well,

some how.

Saturday, August 31, 1889

I went to Sauk Rapids and was examined. I did not get a

certificate but I will try again. The following is my standing.

Reading 90

Writing 70

Geography 65

Spelling 80

History 70

Theory & Practice 55

Physiology 65

Arithmetic 45

Grammar 50

I did not stand near as good as I expected to. I went and took

dinner with Jud Shaw and staid all night with Whitneys. Had

not saw any of them for six years.

Wednesday, September 11, 1889

I went down to Harts and stayed all night then went down to

the Conely school house to the public examination. I did not

get a certificate stood high enough in every thing except

grammar, Arithmetic, and theory and practice. Well it is no

use of my trying to make a living except by hard work.
