Hi Elizabeth,

I have just come across your website. My husband Ken is a descendant of Catherine Carthew Miners and Nicholas George Brokenshire.

Catherine & Nicholas moved to Moonta South Australia where he was a mining engineer in the copper mines. Catherine died in April 1938, and was buried at Moonta on 2 Apr 1938. Her husband Nicholas died 11 Mar 1915 and was buried on March 12th at Moonta - plot 13AR.

They had these children;
1. Nicholas James Brokenshire b 1 Nov 1873, Cross Roads, Moonta buried 9 Feb 1875, Moonta
2. Thomas George Brokenshire b 19 Mar 1875, Cross Roads
3. Nicholas John Brokenshire b 23 Aug 1876, married Jessie Gilchrist in Riverton NZ, died 1954. They had three children.
4. Elizabeth Catherine Brokenshire b 19 Apr 1881, Moonta, d 1915, buried in family plot with parents at Moonta.
5. Edith Brokenshire b 12 Jan 1883, Moonta
6. Carrie May Brokenshire b 19 Feb 1885, Moonta
7. Kate Brokenshire b 4 Feb 1887, Moonta m 26 Sept 1914 to Herbert Bloffwitch.
8. William James Brokenshire b 4 Feb 1889, d 6 Aug 1915 at Anzac Cove Turkey, buried Lone Pine cemetery.
9. Ethel May Brokenshire b 17 May 1891, Moonta
10. Percy Brokenshire b 17 May 1891, d 27 Mar 1892 Moonta
11. Hellen Brokenshire b 17 May 1892 Moonta
12. Percy Brokenshireb 2 Apr 1895 Moonta
13. Beatrice Emma Brokenshire b 24 Oct 1897 Moonta
14. Harry Brokenshire b 6 Dec 1899 Moonta, d 13 Sept 1918 Maissemy, France, buried Vandencourt British Cemetery Maissemy.

I don't know much about the others, but Nicholas John founded quite a large family here in New Zealand, although his only son had no children so they do not bear the Brokenshire name.

Dear Elizabeth,

My family are descendants of George Samuel and Matilda (Carthew Miners) FARRAR. I love your website. I came across some interesting information that may be of interest to you. Apparently Matilda's sister, Catherine Carthew MINERS, had 14 children to Nicholas George Brokenshire. Three were born at Crossroads SA; and 11 at Moonta SA. The family moved to New Zealand after 1899.

Regards
Robyn Farrar
