Gay Composer-Singer Tom McCormack Coming To SyracuseComposer and singer Tom McCormack will make his Syracuse debut at Happy Endings Cake and Coffeehouse, Saturday, April 20 at 10pm.
Based in New York City, McCormack is an openly gay performer who travels around the country. His partner lives in Syracuse, and McCormack often visits here before performance dates.
McCormack has three albums to his credit including Running With Light (1991), Rose Colored Glasses (1993) and his newest release Missing. New York's The Village Voice reported that McCormack is "...one of the most talented openly gay performer songwriters in the country. McCormack's CD Missing on (the) Spotted Dog (record label) is a must-hear for anyone who adores queer music.
A pianist, McCormack sings songs about identity and journeying. His audiences cross all boundaries McCormack has performed in the Macintosh New York Music Festival, Outmusic Annual Festival of Gay & Lesbian Music, Gay Games IV Cultural Festival and clubs such as the Bitter End and the New Music Cafe in NYC. He also performs as part of a group known as "Show & Tell: 4 Lesbian & Gay Songwriters Sing Out & Tell All" with his friends Melinda DiMaio, Zenobia, and Grant King.
McCormacks music has also received radio airplay on college and adult alternative stations around the country. His music has been acclaimed in publications such as Billboard and Genre and he has been compared to Tracy Chapman, Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel, John Gorka and early Elton John. McCormack's show at Happy Endings will give the traditionally tough Syracuse audiences a chance to make their own evaluations.
However, given the high caliber of talent Happy Endings has presented in the past two years, McCormack's appearance there is likely to bring mostly smiles and cheers. For more information, call Happy Endings.
