GMTV

As you may already know, the band are going to be appearing on GMTV, on ITV1, this Friday morning (29th) - they'll be performing Ain't That A Kick In The Head.

Straight after they've been on the show, Westlife will be holding a video webchat on the GMTV website, from 8.30-9am.

You can get your questions in now via the GMTV website, and a transcript will be added to the same site later in the day.

Additional Nottingham tour date

From 9am this Friday (October 29th), an extra Nottingham Arena show will go on-sale for Westlife's 2005 Red Carpet tour.

The new date is March 23rd, and tickets will be available from the box office on 0870 1210 123 or online from www.getlive.co.uk/westlife.

Digital Music Awards winners

For an astonishing 4th year running, Westlife picked up the 'People's Choice' award for Best Official Website at last night's Digital Music Awards.

Huge thanks to all of you who voted; from what we hear, it was an absolute landslide (again!).

The Digital Music Awards (formerly the Online Music Awards, then the Interactive Music Awards...) began 5 years ago, with the People's Choice category being introduced in the second year. This year's success means Westlife are still the only act to have ever won the title!

The band couldn't make it to the awards ceremony, held at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London, but did send a video message thanking you all for voting...

Dublin shows on-sale from Saturday

On February 8th and 9th 2005, Westlife take their Red Carpet tour to Dublin's Point venue.

Extra tour dates on-sale now

From 9am this morning (Friday 15th), 6 extra shows on Westlife's 2005 Red Carpet tour went on-sale (new dates in Wembley, Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, Glasgow and Sheffield).

From 1pm, an additional Newcastle show will be available as well.

Live DVD coming on November 15th

On November 15th, Westlife will release a new live DVD, based around their show at The Globe in Stockholm on May 29th this year.

This performance was part of their massive European tour that saw the boys take to the road throughout the first half of 2004. It includes 19 tracks, with all of their biggest hits from over the years. It includes a special stripped down version of Flying Without Wings, which became the first ever number 1 in the official UK Download charts. It also includes extra never-before-seen exclusive footage and bonus material.

For the last 3 years Westlife have had the Xmas number one DVD. It looks like this release could make it the 4th...

We'll have the full tracklisting, and some video previews, nearer the time of release.

Regional radio dates

The band's week of regional radio appearances kicked off yesterday (Monday) in Swansea, Cardiff and Bristol, with interviews at 96.4fm The Wave (check out pics from their studio webcam), Real Radio (more pics), BBC Radio Wales, Red Dragon FM, Star 107.2 and GWR.

Ain't That A Kick In The Head download

Although Ain't That A Kick In The Head, the lead track from Westlife's forthcoming album Allow Us To Be Frank, will not be released as a physical single, we can now confirm that it will be made available as a digital-only release, on November 1st.

You'll be able to buy the track direct from this site, as well as through the major download retailers.

It will be the band's third digital-only release, following Flying Without Wings (live @ Stockholm Globe), which made history as the first number 1 on the Official Download Charts in September, and When A Woman Loves A Man.

The latter track was released just ahead of the band's last studio album, Turnaround, and although there was no official chart at the time, it too was the best selling track in its week of release.

The digital track will also come with print-off artwork, which you can view a small version of in the Gallery section, here.

Next tour

We know that there's lots of speculation about the band's next tour, and we can confirm that Westlife will be hitting the road in the new year. Details of exact dates and venues are still being confirmed, but as soon as they are, we'll let you know.

There should also be an online pre-sale of tickets - this means that we'll give you a link from which a limited number of tickets (from throughout the venue) will be available to buy ahead of the general on-sale time.

Again, this is still to be 100% confirmed, but you should check back for updates...

Allow Us To Be Frank

Westlife are back with their brand new Rat-Pack themed album Allow Us To Be Frank. The lp is a collection of the band's favourite classics from the golden Rat-Pack era.

Featuring tracks originally performed by legends such as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis jnr and Mr Frank Sinatra. Allow Us To Be Frank pays homage to those bourbon filled years when the Rat-Pack used to hang out and perform at The Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Westlife fully capture the spirit and image of that unique time: with immaculately tailored suits and their hair smoothed back the band couldn't look more authentic.

The album is produced by long-time collaborator Steve Mac, and highlights the band's vocal prowess and ability. Westlife recorded the album with a full 60 piece orchestra at Phoenix Studios in Wembley over the Summer of 2004. It's their first record as a four-piece, and their strongest to date.

The album consists of 13 classic tracks including Fly Me To The Moon, Moon River, Ain't That A Kick In The Head, Come Fly With Me and Smile to name a few. Allow Us To Be Frank also includes an extra-special duet - The Way You Look Tonight - featuring the band singing alongside a fan plucked from total obscurity, and chosen after thousands of hopefuls auditioned in front of Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian in a nationwide talent search earlier this year. The auditions will be part of an ITV primetime Westlife TV special 'You’re The One' which will be screened in December this year.

Westlife spent time recording videos in LA and Las Vegas to complete the authentic look. Whilst in Vegas the band took time to visit some of the legendary Rat Pack locations, and performed at the World Music Awards where they were presented with an award for this year's Best Selling Irish Act.

"We had a great time recording this album. We have always loved the whole spirit and style of the Rat Pack era. They had a strong family vibe going on which is what we have in Westlife. The only problem was how do you choose an album’s worth of material with such a strong catalogue to pick from? It was tough but we got there in the end," said Kian.

World Music Award winners

Westlife picked up the award for 'Best Selling Irish Artist' at the extravagent 2004 World Music Awards ceremony held in Las Vegas last night (September 15th).

The band also performed at the event; you can find a picture of the boys at the aftershow here...

The WMAs coincided with Westlife being in town to shoot videos for their new Rat-Pack themed album Allow Us To Be Frank, which is released on November 8th.

Westlife make download history...

It was confirmed last night that Westlife will go down in history as the first ever #1 act on the Official UK Download Chart.

The live version of Flying Without Wings, which was released last week, beat off competition from the likes of Blazin' Squad and Muse to take the inaugural top spot.

The chart rundown was played out on Radio 1 last night, and a launch party for the chart was held at The Marquee Club in Leicester Square, London.

Shane was at the party to collect an award for the achievement on behalf of the band...

Flying Without Wings download preview

Click the stream links below to preview a clip of the special live version of Flying Without Wings which Westlife will be releasing as a download only track next Monday (August 23rd).

The track was recorded in Stockholm at the end of May this year, on the band's Turnaround tour, and is a stripped down, piano and vocal led version of the song.

The video of the live performance will be going on The Box next week.The release coincides with the opening of the Official Download Chart, which will run alongside the singles chart, and be covered on Radio 1 on Wednesday evenings.

Manchester auditions/ meet the band...

Westlife will be at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Monday August 23rd, for the Manchester leg of the You're The One auditions.

Even if you're not going to the auditions, you should still head down, because the band will be around in the morning beforehand to say hello to fans, and sign autographs. Best to arrive early - before 9am - and you'll also have the chance of appearing on film...

First Westlife official download chart release due August 23rd

Back in November of last year Nicky, Kian, Shane and Mark topped the first ever industry only digital download track with no promotion or marketing. On August 23rd, they'll be going for the same spot on the official launch of the first ever singles download chart - also their first release as a 4-piece.

The band are releasing a special live version of their massive Number 1 single Flying Without Wings, recorded on the Turnaround tour live from The Globe, Stockholm, on May 29th earlier this year. Click the video stream links below to see the band talking about it...

The download chart will be compiled by the Official Chart Company, the same company that compile the official Top 40 each week. Fans and music buyers alike will be able to legally download Flying Without Wings from various websites (including westlife.com and all other legal download stores such as iTunes, mycokemusic.com, msnmusicclub.com, freeserve.com, hmvonlinestore.com and napster.com).

Flying Without Wings shot straight to the number one spot in October 1999 and has remained a firm favourite with fans ever since. This special live stripped down version of Flying Without Wings was recorded in May of this year at The Globe, Stockholm on the massive sell-out Turnaround Arena tour. You're The One phoneline now closed

We've had thousands of entries to the You're The One competition, in which Westlife are looking for a female vocalist to duet on their new album and TV special.

The phonelines have now closed - the standard of entries has been really high, and the scale of the auditions look likely to eclipse those of Pop Idol by some distance...

Auditions take place in Dublin on August 22nd, Manchester on the 23rd and London on the 24th. Once all the entries have been listened to, fans selected for the auditions will be contacted.

The Westlife Hotline for fans in the Republic Of Ireland is now open...

The number is: 1 550 234 888The process for entering is exactly the same as on the UK line - you call up, leave some contact details and sing a burst of your favourite song.

Discomania tickets all gone

Thanks to everyone who applied for tickets to Discomania, an ITV show hosted by Donna Summer which is being recorded on June 10th.

The audience is now fully booked up with all tickets allocated, so Granada are not taking any more applications.

Nicky at Reading Soccer Sixes this Sunday

If anyone is able to get down to Reading's Madejski Stadium this Sunday (23rd May), they'll be able to see Nicky line up against a certain old friend in the latest leg of the 2004 Soccer Sixes events.

Bryan McFadden and wife Kerry will both be playing as well, along with a host of other celebrity names - Liberty X, Snow Patrol, Tony Hadley (ex Spandau Ballet), Starsailor, Blazin' Squad, Jodie Marsh, DJ Spoony, Chris Moyles and plenty more.

New Singstar PS2 game featuring Westlife...

Released on May 21st is a new Playstation 2 game called Singstar.Using a microphone that plugs into the PS2 (2 mics come with the game), your aim is basically to sing well-known pop tunes as close to perfect as you can! And one of the songs you can perform - and you must have sung this in the shower many times already - is World Of Our Own...

The game measures your pitch, tone and rhythm as you sing, then analyses how well or badly you've done and provides feedback. There's a single-player mode in which you can embark on a whole career in singing, but also very sociable multi-player games, incorporating song challenges, duets, battles, team competitions and more. And if you own the Eyetoy accessory, you can even see yourself in the game...

Look out early next week for a great comp, where we'll have copies of the game, a TV and a PS2 to give away!

Manchester Onstage review

"Despite having recently lost one of their members, Westlife roll into Manchester undeterred and prove to their loyal fans that the four remaining boys can still put on an amazing show.

As darkness fills the Arena, Westlife emerge from under the stage in a blaze of lights and are greeted with rapturous applause and deafening screams from the thousands of people that fill the auditorium. They belt out Turnaround, the title track from their most recent album and after performing a number of classic songs and a quick costume change, the boys are back on stage on their trademark stools, taking the audience back to the group's early days by singing number one hits such as Swear It Again and Flying Without Wings."

Brighton show re-arranged dates

Westlife's cancelled shows in Brighton on April 9th and 10th have been rescheduled for June 13th and 14th respectively.

The band obviously didn't want to have to cancel the original dates, but unfortunately Nicky had to undergo a medical procedure in order to rule out the possibility of a kidney stone.

Otherwise, the Turnaround tour is going fantastically well - thanks to everyone for being such a great crowd, and we hope the Brighton concert goers enjoy their dates in June...

Westlife Announce The Departure Of Bryan McFadden

Westlife today announce that in the tradition of all great groups that they are now a four piece. Nicky, Kian, Shane and Mark are currently rehearsing for their massive sold out arena tour of Europe and South East Asia.

The band have taken time out from their rehearsals to announce the amicable departure of member Bryan McFadden. Beginning on the 29th of March at the Belfast Odessey the tour will see the band perform in excess of 70 shows across Europe and South East Asia in just over 4 months ending in August. Westlife have often rehearsed as a four piece so any adjustments needed are minor.

Nicky, Kian, Mark, Shane and Bryan McFadden have decided that this is the ideal moment for Bryan to leave Westlife. Bryan has come to a point in his life where he feels he can no longer give Westlife the 100% commitment needed. He will be spending time at home developing other aspects of his life.Westlife are obviously devastated by this news but have come to terms with Bryan's decision. Since their launch in 1999 the band have had a very special close bond and are more like brothers than band-mates. Westlife are now united as four and are just confirming plans for their next studio album after their World Arena tour scheduled for release sometime this Autumn.

Westlife are the biggest pop band in the world right now and their success to date are unrivalled. They are the only recording artists in the history of the awards to win the prestigious Record of the Year three times. They have performed to over 3 million fans on three sell-out arena tours to become the biggest selling arena tour act ever. They have sold over 32 million records globally; had five multi-platinum albums in the UK alone; scored a record breaking 12 UK number ones, picked up two BRIT Awards, an MTV Europe Award and 6 Irish Meteor Awards (Best Pop Act for 4 years consecutively). 'Turnaround', Westlife's fifth album (including last year's Unbreakable - The Greatest Hits) went straight into the number one spot in its first week of release in the UK and has sold over 4 million copies globally in under 6 months.

Obvious hits top 3

Thanks very much to everyone who's already bought Westlife's current single Obvious - it went into the UK singles chart yesterday at number 3, becoming the band's 17th top 5 record, and their 15th to reach the top 3.

The next big event for Westlife will be the beginning of their tour, which starts on March 29th in Belfast. We'll have meet and greet comps to run for every town on the tour (Belfast through to Birmingham), so look out for those on this site.

Obvious out now!

Westlife today release their new single Obvious. It's taken from their #1 album Turnaround, and has an instantly memorable chorus - a simple love song, beautifully performed by Westlife doing what they do best.

Which, we'd like to think, is a lot better than anything Peter Andre can do!

It's be available on 2 CDs - CD1 features an exclusive Flying Without Wings/ My Love and Mandy medley, and CD2 features a brand new track (I'm Missing Loving You), To Be With You (live) and the Obvious video and 'Making Of'.

Additional tour dates now onsale

Check the tour listing below for details of additional dates that Westlife have now put on-sale for their Turnaround tour. New shows have gone on sale in Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Sheffield, Dublin, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Hamburg and Amsterdam. The kicks off at the end of March, and the UK leg will run all the way through April and May. Westlife were the biggest selling live act in the UK in 2003, and Turnaround, their 5th album, has now sold well over 600,000 copies since its release in November last year.

Shot in Goa, the band acquired healthy tans and played with quite a lot of fire - look out for the burning beds, and exploding TVs!
