Quartermaine Residence:
''Mr. Quartermaine, I was told that you wanted to speak to me alone,'' said Alexander Steele walking into Edward Quartermaine's private study. ''Yes, I do,'' said Edward.
''Now I suppose I could beat around the bush with this, but that's really not my style. Instead I will be direct. Why did you sabotage the search for Lucky's parents?''
Alexander Steele's expression reflected his shock at Edward Quartermaine's question. Alexander paused for a second, a sick feeling invading his system.
Looking at Edward Quartermaine he realized that there was no sense in trying to pretend he was innocent of what Edward Quartermaine had just accused him of doing.
Alexander sighed and walked over to the fireplace, where he stood for a few seconds gazing at nothing in particular. ''How did you find out?'' Asked Alexander, turning to face Edward who had followed him over to the fireplace.
Edward told Alexander about his friend at the FBI and what his investigation had uncovered. ''It would be foolish of me to pretend I am innocent, since it's clear you have the proof of my guilt,'' said Alexander.
Edward narrowed his eyes and regarded Alexander coldly. ''Do you have any idea the pain Lucky's family and friends suffered? Elizabeth, do you have any idea how much she suffered thinking that Lucky was dead and a happy future was lost to her forever? Why did you do it?'' Questioned Edward.
Alexander Steele remained silent, unable to meet Edward's eyes. ''Allow me to take a stab at your reasons Alexander. Did you need another grandson because your only son and grandson had no interest in business, leaving no one to succeed you? Did you suspect that with the proper grooming, Lucky could run Steele enterprises one day?''
Edward watched as Alexander Steele sunk into a chair, his face buried in his hands. Edward almost felt sorry for the man, almost.
A few minutes later Edward watched as Alexander searched for the words to explain his actions. Clearing his throat Alexander began.
''It was not for any of those reasons you mentioned, at least not consciously,'' said Alexander thoughtfully. ''You see, by the time Malcolm was well enough to leave the hospital the search for his family had already been exhausted and nothing was found.
Theresa, Michael, Jonathan and Danielle were already in love with Malcolm, especially Theresa, who I think was secretly hoping the search would fail so she could adopt Malcolm.
It was then that Michael asked me to continue the search, so I did. Malcolm was pushing to find out who he was, understandably.
The FBI regular fingerprint database had not turned up anything, so I used my influence to get them to search their classified database. Those private files regular citizens aren't aware of, the ones you and I know about.
They were able to locate him of course and what they found was alarming to me. I got a look at Mr. Lucas Lorenzo Spencer's file and I was shocked at what I found in his files.
Mr. Spencer was deeply connected to the mob and seemed at one time to be deeply involved himself. The many shootouts at his club, I mean the man seemed to attract violence at every turn, not to mention the years on the run from said mob.
There was information on Malcolm getting shot before by one of his father's associates. The fact that Malcolm had just been released from the hospital after being shot again seemed like proof to me that he wasn't safe as a Spencer.
I read about the fire above the bike shop, a shop owned by a criminal I might add. I knew about the body that was believed to be Malcolm, the dental match. Everything about the entire situation told me that someone, perhaps an enemy of his father deliberately kidnapped and tortured Malcolm.
How could I return Malcolm to all of that, knowing that someone out there wanted him dead? I couldn't. I couldn't in good conscience send my grandson back to that,'' finished Alexander, his eyes pleading with Edward for understanding.
''Do Theresa or Michael know about this?'' Questioned Edward. Alexander's response was quick and firm.
''Absolutely not, no one knows about this. As soon as I came to the conclusion that Malcolm was better off having Theresa and Michael for parents, I had the files destroyed. I should have known that the FBI would have kept a backup,'' said Alexander shaking his head sadly.
Edward took a deep breath, considering all Alexander had told him. He could see that the man was telling the truth and wondered if placed in the same situation he would have done what Alexander did.
''Will you tell everyone what I did?'' Asked Alexander. ''Will you tell Malcolm?'' He whispered shakily. The idea of his grandson learning what he did was most unsettling to Alexander, the thought causing him to begin sweating, though the room was perfectly cool.
''I had thought to tell Lucky as soon as I confronted you, but now I am torn,'' said Edward. ''On the one hand what you did was arrogant and without regards for the Spencer's grief. But on the other hand, I can understand, I suppose, how not knowing Luke Spencer you could be shocked and horrified getting to know him on paper. I don't know how I am going to proceed. I am going to need to sleep on it.''
Seeing how distressed the man looked Edward cleared his throat and continued. ''If I decide that I can't live with this, I will give you the opportunity to tell Lucky yourself,'' finished Edward.
''I guess that's all I can expect given the circumstances,'' said Alexander, hoping that Edward Quartermaine would see fit to let sleeping dog lie.
''We should return to the party before everyone starts to wonder where we are,'' said Edward. The two men left the study together each locked in their own thoughts about what was discussed.
Lucky and Elizabeth en-route to the party:
''Elizabeth, you can't stay mad at me all evening,'' said Lucky from his seat across from Elizabeth in the limousine. Elizabeth continued to be silent, keeping her eyes glued to the window, effectively ignoring Lucky.
''I don't even understand why I am in the doghouse,'' continued Lucky, looking pleadingly at Elizabeth, who continued to ignore his pleas.
''What's an hour late,'' said Lucky. I am sure everyone is having such a good time at the party that they don't even miss us,'' said Lucky hopefully.
''All I asked was that you get dress while I dried my hair, that's all,'' said Elizabeth. ''That's not too much to ask is it? I don't think so,'' she continued. ''I expected to find you almost fully dressed and waiting when I got out of the shower, but no, what do I find instead?'' Asked Elizabeth giving Lucky a dirty look.
''I find you, on the phone chatting away without a care in the world, that damnable towel barely covering your gorgeous naked body. I mean, Lucky what was I suppose to do, I am just a red-blooded American woman. I couldn't help what came next, so this is all your fault,'' accused Elizabeth.
''If you had done what I asked, I would have gotten dressed and together we would already be at the party. Now everyone is going to suspect what we've been up to and the reason we are so late.''
Lucky looked quickly away trying to hide the smile that was quickly spreading across his face. ''Are you laughing at me Lucky Spencer?'' Asked Elizabeth sternly. ''Because I am not in the mood to be laughed at right now.''
Lucky sobered and changed seats so he was sitting next to Elizabeth. ''I am really sorry Elizabeth, but Danielle had a small crisis and needed my advice. I really meant to get dressed, although you'll forgive me if I can't regret our little interlude,'' whispered Lucky in a passion filled voice.
Elizabeth tried to remain angry at Lucky, but found she couldn't resist the sexy smile he was now directing at her. Feeling light headed, Elizabeth's lips curled into an involuntary smile, her eyes staring dreamily into Lucky's.
''I think you should go back over there,'' whispered Elizabeth breathlessly. ''Really? You want me to go back all the way over there?'' Asked Lucky, his lips only inches away from hers.
Elizabeth groaned and wrapped her arms around Lucky's neck, sighing softly when she felt his assault on her lips. Parting her lips she welcomed Lucky's seeking tongue as it twirled around hers with abandon.
Lucky and Elizabeth were so lost in each other's touch that they were oblivious to the knowledge that the limousine had come to a stop or that the driver was standing with the door open waiting for them to step out.
After a few minutes the driver cleared his throat and waited but Elizabeth and Lucky were still gloriously unaware of his presence.
''Get a room,'' said Nicholas poking his head inside the limousine and yelling at Elizabeth and Lucky, who jumped guiltily away from each other.
Emily pushed Nicholas inside the limousine and hopped in next to him facing Lucky and Elizabeth. ''You know it's bad enough you two are late,'' said Emily. ''But to sit here in the driveway and make out like a couple of adolescents is, well, just so cute,'' squealed Emily.
They all laughed as Elizabeth searched her purse for her mirror so she could check her appearance. ''You look fine Elizabeth,'' said Emily. ''Lucky didn't mess up your hair and your make-up is completely perfect,'' smiled Emily.
''What are you two doing lurking about anyway, shouldn't you be inside waiting for the guest of honor?'' Asked Lucky. ''We should, but we are late too,'' laughed Nicholas.
''You are late to my party? Why are you late to my party?'' ''Possibly for the same reason you are,'' answered Nicholas, ducking as Emily tried to swat him playfully.
Elizabeth blushed and shot Lucky an ''I told you so'' look. Lucky smiled and pulled Elizabeth to him for a quick kiss on the cheek before moving to get out of the limousine.
Quartermaine Residence:
Nicholas, Emily, Lucky and Elizabeth stood in the foyer of the Quartermaine Mansion for a second. The party was being held in the West ballroom and even from the foyer they could all hear the sounds of all the festivities.
''Lucky,'' said Nicholas. ''Tell the truth, ten years ago, did you ever think that Edward Quartermaine would throw a party in your honor.'' ''Hey, it's not that far fetched,'' answered Lucky. ''Edward and I have a history together and I always suspected that he likes me.''
Emily and Lucky laughed together, attracting strange looks from both Nicholas and Elizabeth. ''Right,'' said Emily, ''you two weren't living in Port Charles when Lucky and grandfather had their custody dispute.''
''Custody dispute?'' Asked Nicholas. ''My dog, Foster, fell in love with Edward and Lila's dog, Annabelle, and had a puppy together. For awhile Edward and I went back and forth over who should keep the puppy but eventually we both agreed that Emily should have him,'' said Lucky.
''Raul?'' Asked Nicholas and Elizabeth together. ''Yep,'' said Emily, still chuckling. ''To this day when you mention it to grandfather he swears that he won the custody dispute because Raul ended up living in his house.''
''It's my house,'' said Monica walking into the foyer followed closely by Alan. ''I gave it you,'' said Alan. ''See what you've started,'' said Nicholas. Emily rolled her eyes at her mom and dad as they began the age-old debate about who owned the house.
''Let's go,'' said Emily, shaking her head at her parents. Turning to Nicholas Emily held his hand in hers. ''Honey, promise me we will never fight like that,'' said Emily. ''Emily, sweetheart, we couldn't fight like Alan and Monica if we tried.'' ''You are right, I don't know what I'm worried about.''
A cheer went up in the ballroom when Lucky and Elizabeth walked in, causing them to jump back in surprise. ''I was beginning to think that you love birds were going to just forego the festivities,'' shouted Luke from across the room.
''I knew they would know,'' said Elizabeth to Lucky, smiling sweetly at the crowd who were all beaming at her and Lucky knowingly. ''Elizabeth, that's just Dad, you know how he is. For all anyone else knows we had a flat tire.''
Lucky quickly found out that Luke was already spreading the word that he would be moving back to Port Charles. ''What are you smiling about?'' Asked Elizabeth. ''How well my two families are getting along,'' answered Lucky, a big smile plastered all over his face.
After mingling for a few minutes, Lucky detached himself from Elizabeth to go after Martha who had just nodded to him and stepped out of the ballroom.
''You've got it,'' exclaimed Lucky to Martha a moment later. ''I would never let you down Mr. Steele,'' said Martha smiling at her excited boss as he examined the jewel. ''Thanks Martha,'' said Lucky kissing the woman quickly on the cheek before disappearing once more into the ballroom.
''Lucky, where did you disappear to?'' Accused Elizabeth. ''I don't mean to be a ninny, but I am just not ready to let you out of my sight. ''Don't worry, I feel the same way. I just needed to clear up a matter with Martha, but now I am all yours,'' said Lucky.
Lacing her arm through Lucky's, Elizabeth dragged him off to talk to Lucy and Kevin. ''Hi Lucky,'' said Lucy, reaching over to give Lucky a quick kiss on the cheek. ''I am so happy that you are back from the dead, course you weren't really dead, we just thought that you were. When really you've been living in LA with an adopted family. How do you feel about that by the way, I am sure you feel just fine, you've been living with them for ten years, so why wouldn't you feel just fine…'' ''Lucy,'' said Kevin stopping the ongoing dialogue Lucy was having.
''I am sorry Lucky, I am, just, oh so darn glad to see you, and your father, I bet he's happy too. He was so sad when you were dead, but now he's happy look at him over there laughing and chatting away with Sonny…''
Kevin interrupted Lucy's flood of dialogue once more, pulling her tightly to him causing her to purse her lips together and look up at him in frustration.
''Lucky it's wonderful to have you back,'' said Kevin. ''Why don't you and Liz join Lucy and I for dinner some night soon.'' ''We would enjoy that,'' said Lucky.
Elizabeth and Lucky watched as Kevin dragged Lucy away in search of Mac and Felicia. ''Well it's comforting to know that Lucy is still Lucy,'' said Lucky.
''Hi Lucky,'' said Sonny. ''Meet my wife, your sister Lacy.'' Lucky stared at Lacy for a second before reaching down to give her hug.
''Mom and Dad told me about you and I guess, I recall seeing you that first night I was back, but it's still a shock.'' ''I completely understand,'' said Lacy.
''Well, I think it's great having another sister to fuss over me,'' smiled Lucky. ''Right, I was just talking to Danielle, you now of three of us vying for your attention.''
''First a brother I didn't know about for a decade and a half, now a sister. Still, I think it's wonderful, I don't think you can ever have too much family.''
''I agree, that is as long as you don't push me down a flight of stairs,'' said Lacy laughing at the surprised look on Lucky's face. ''Hey, you are a legend around here man. Luke talked about you constantly, not to mention Elizabeth, Nicholas and Emily.''
''Me too,'' said Sonny. ''Right, how can I forget the great camp out, it just keeps getting more elaborate and daring each time the tale is told by you and Luke.
Which reminds me, Lucky, our father tells me that you will be moving back to Port Charles. He mentioned that your other family has also decided to move here.''
''Yes, Port Charles is home. I forgot that for awhile, but now, I can't even imagine living anywhere else,'' said Lucky.
''Good, I am happy to know that, because I look forward to getting to know my little brother,'' said Lacy. ''Also, I would love to hear your take on those adventurous years on the run. I keep getting the feeling like our father has been exaggerating a bit.''
''He does that,'' said Lucky, smiling proudly. ''But I will be more than happy to tell you the real story of our lives on the run.''
Elizabeth cleared her throat and winked at Lacy. ''I don't know if you want to trust Lucky's version of events either,'' said Elizabeth. ''He tends to exaggerate as shamelessly as Luke.''
Looking at Elizabeth with a shocked expression, Lucky shakes his head, pretending to be wounded. ''You think I exaggerated about all my adventures on the run?'' Asked Lucky, giving Elizabeth his most perfected hurt look.
''Let's just say that Laura's version is less colorful and I just thought Lacy might be more interested dedicating that version to memory,'' said Elizabeth, smiling sweetly at Lucky.
Lucky and Elizabeth talked with Sonny and Lacy for a while longer before they caught sight of Emily waving frantically at them. ''We better go see what she wants before she loses an arm,'' said Lucky.
''Ok Emily, what was so earth shattering that we had to come right over?'' Asked Elizabeth. Emily giggled happily, reaching over to give both Lucky and Elizabeth quick kisses on the cheeks.
''Lucky, Luke just told us that you and your other family will be moving to Port Charles,'' said Emily excitedly.
''Ok, I am moving back to Port Charles, is that your big news that couldn't wait?'' Asked Lucky, laughing at Emily's enthusiasm.
''No, Nicholas and I were talking and we were wondering if you and Elizabeth are going to remain in her house, or are you going to get another place. See if you are,'' continued Emily, not giving Elizabeth or Lucky a chance to respond.
''The estate next door to us is for sale and it's really beautiful. Wouldn't it be great if we all lived next door to each other, the four musketeers back together again?'' Finished Emily.
Lucky and Elizabeth glanced at each other for a second. ''Emily we really haven't discussed where we are going to live yet,'' said Elizabeth.
''Although,'' said Lucky. ''Your idea about the four musketeers back together again is very appealing. Allow Elizabeth and I to discuss it first and we will let you know ok.''
Emily nodded, even more excited that Elizabeth and Lucky found the idea interesting. ''This is so great, isn't it great,'' squealed Emily, causing Nicholas, Elizabeth and Lucky to laugh with her.
Lucky's face fell, causing the others to stop laughing. ''Lucky, what's wrong?'' Asked Elizabeth concerned.
''Over there,'' whispered Lucky. ''Dad and Stephan are laughing and talking like long lost pals.'' Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief and Emily and Nicholas broke up laughing.
''Lucky, a lot has changed since you've been gone and one of the more shocking changes is the friendship between Luke and Stephan,'' said Elizabeth.
''My father and Stephan Cassidine, friends, no way, never.'' ''Yep,'' said Emily. ''After Bobbie and Stephan got married, Laura and Bobbie convinced Luke and Stephan to attempt to get along. They didn't at first, but eventually they just stopped fighting and start liking each other.''
''Wait a second. Aunt Bobbie and Stephan are married again?'' Asked Lucky, his face registering his shock.
''Oh honey, there's so much I need to tell you,'' said Elizabeth. ''I promise I will fill you in on everything when we play catch up. Remember there's a lot of things I don't know about you that I can't wait to find out,'' continued Elizabeth smiling lovingly up at Lucky.
Lucky looked down at Elizabeth and gave her his sexiest smile, causing her knees to go weak. ''Stop it,'' whispered Elizabeth, pulling Lucky towards the patio.
On the patio a minute later, ''what did I do?'' Asked Lucky, trying to look innocent. ''You know what you did,'' said Elizabeth, reaching up to give him a quick kiss that quickly grew intense.
''Elizabeth, this is not a good idea,'' said Lucky pulling away slightly and taking a deep breath. ''You are right, let's go back inside before someone catches us or before we both start something we can't finish right now.''
Once inside Lucky looked around the room and seeing that everyone important to him and Elizabeth were present and accounted for decided it was time to do his thing.
''Everyone, may I have your attention please?'' Said Lucky surprising Elizabeth. At Lucky's request everyone immediately ceased talking and someone turned off the music that had been playing in the background.
Reaching inside the pocket of his tuxedo Lucky pulled out the small black box that Martha had given him earlier. Elizabeth's eyes grew wide as she realized what Lucky was about to do. ''Audrey,'' said Lucky, his voice shaking a bit, signaling to Elizabeth that he feeling nervous.
Audrey stepped forward as all eyes remained glued on Lucky. ''May I have your granddaughter's hand in marriage?'' Asked Lucky.
Elizabeth was crying openly now as Audrey, one arm folded around her middle, the other hand over her mouth nodded to Lucky. Tears poured down Audrey's cheeks as she finally removed her hand from her mouth.
''I would be honored to have you as my grandson-in-law,'' said Audrey simply. Lucky reached over and hugged Audrey for a long moment, before moving to kneel on one knee before Elizabeth who was shaking from head to toe.
Taking Elizabeth's left hand in his, Lucky held up the black box containing a three and a half carat pear shaped diamond ring set amidst sparkling rubies. Sounds of excitement could be heard throughout the room as everyone moved closer to see the ring and hear what Lucky had to say.
Elizabeth's eyes kept wondering from Lucky's incredible beautiful blue eyes to the amazingly beautiful ring he was holding up.
''Elizabeth,'' began Lucky, gaining her complete attention, despite the distraction of the ring. ''I feel like I wished you into being. Although we've spent most of our lives apart, I feel like you've always been with me. Although I didn't remember you in my head for ten years, in my heart you were always with me. I know that now. I used to wonder about the loneliness I felt inside and now I know that my heart was missing you, I was missing you. I love you more than words could ever express, and I promise to spend the rest of our lives showing just how much I love and cherish you. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?'' Finished Lucky.
Elizabeth nodded frantically, smiling through her tears. ''Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes,'' cried Elizabeth, her eyes shining brightly.
Lucky smiled up at her with tears in his eyes before taking the ring out of the box and sliding it onto Elizabeth's finger.
Lucky then stood up and gathered Elizabeth into his arms, holding her tightly to him for a long moment, before engaging Elizabeth in a passionate kiss.
Everyone cheered loudly, shouting words of congratulation. Luke's voice could be heard above the rest shouting, ''that's my boy'' over and over at the top of his lungs.
After a few minutes everyone looked on in awe as the two continued to hold each other tears running down both their cheeks.
Lucky pulled away slightly and beamed down at Elizabeth. ''You can't ever back out now,'' shouted Lucky for everyone to hear. ''I've got a room filled with witnesses that heard all those yeses.'' Elizabeth smiled happily up at him and shouted back. ''You had me at Elizabeth.''
The whole room erupted in laughter as Lucky pulled Elizabeth back to him for another passionate kiss that left them both breathless.
