Birthday: June 1
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Winkie, Arjiki
Religion: Atheist
Social Status: Upper class
Physical Traits
Hair: Dark brown; it goes to approximately her waist and is wavy. She keeps it in a tight braid held on either end by rawhide strings.
Eyes: Bright blue and almond-shaped.
Complexion: Dark skin
Build: She’s very strong-looking, built very much like a fighter
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 121 lbs.
Quirks: She has blue diamonds painted down her neck, arms, and chest. She also has a slight limp in her left leg from a wound when she was ten.
Clothing: Fabala usually wears a white shirt and light colored skirts. The skirts are usually full-length and hide the boots she wears. The shirt is loose and is button-up, with the top button un-buttoned, so just a tiny bit of her top-most diamond on her chest can be seen.
Mental Traits
Personality: Fabala is a very quiet person. When she’s around people she’s very close to, such as Aran, she’s a big softie and a normal girl, but when she’s with people she doesn’t know too well, she can come off as harsh and brooding. She keeps to herself for the most part, usually enjoying to just lose herself in a book or to just sit alone outside and watch the clouds go by. She is usually noticed for the blue tattoos, but for the most part, she can easily hide herself away somewhere and not be found for a long period of time. She’s very good at watching people and understanding them, even if she’s not good with social interaction herself. The idea of being popular for the sake of people liking her is absurd to her mind, and she finds Gillikinese to be rather odd in that respect.
Idiosyncrasies: Fabala always has to tie her hair into a perfect braid. If a piece of hair has fallen out of the braid, she’ll redo it. To most people, it’s considered obsessive-compulsive, but to the people who know her the best, it’s because she always has to have her hair perfect, because it’s the only part of herself she’s comfortable with.
Talents: Although she doesn’t do it much, Fabala sings very well. She also is a good speech-giver, and is good with uniting people.
Likes: Fabala loves light colors, sunny days, and sitting down with a good book. She likes being alone and not having to answer personal questions. She would rather be with people she trusted than people in general. She also likes to make sarcastic comments that fluster Gillikinese.
Dislikes: The Gale Force and the Witch Hunters would go on the top of the list. She doesn’t like being asked about herself, and she hates insane chatter. She doesn’t like dark colors or dark things in general, like her skin, and doesn’t like being talked about behind her back and being labeled.
Strengths: She’s a very good public speaker, and is very good at speaking her mind. She’s good with animals, and is very good at understanding people’s anger.
Weaknesses: Her own anger can get in the way of understanding another person. She’s not good in social situations, and she’s not very good at making ‘friends’.
Failures: Not being able to save Thane. She thinks this is her fault personally, even though the Arjiki think she was brave for trying to save him.
Achievements: She was able to get Aran accustomed to living with the Arjiki. She also stood up to the Gale Force when no others would.
Hobbies: Fabala loves to read. She likes to sit outside and watch the people. She has a game she plays, about what’s really going on in a person’s life, behind their outer façade.
Outer Identification
Family: Little is known about Fabala’s family. Even Aran has never met them, except in passing. Fabala keeps all information about her parents close to her chest, and is the only Arjiki to know who they are. She had a younger brother, named Thane, but he was killed by Gale Forcers seven years ago. Aran is like a foster-brother; he nursed her back to health, and she’s been indebted to him since.
Hometown: Kiamo Ko
History: Fabala was born in the desert outside of Oz. She was the eldest of two, and nothing of great import happened there. When she was five, her parents came back to Oz, to the Vinkus, and formed an alliance with the Winkie tribes. She and her brother, Thane, lived in relative peace as respected individuals in the succeeded Vinkus, until the Gale Force started to take a path through the Vinkus to get to the Glikkus and the emerald mines.
Thane got in the Gale Force’s way one day. It wasn’t only because he was a brat of a five-year-old who was far away from his home, but also because he was different-looking. The Gale Force started to take him away to work in the emerald mines also, but Fabala found them and tried to stop them. The Gale Force shot Thane in the chest. The boy died instantly. They then shot Fabala in the leg, hitting bone. She collapsed before she could cross the Grasslands, but was found by the scarecrow, who took her back to Kiamo Ko.
Usually, an Arjiki has to be thirteen to receive their tribal tattoos, but because of Fabala’s bravery, she was given the thirty-two blue diamonds that showed her status at the age of ten. She stayed awake long enough to see the last tattoo put onto her left arm, before she fainted. She was running a fever from the exertion, and couldn’t stay awake.
When she woke up, it was four days later, and she was being cared for by a Quadling boy the scarecrow had saved from the Gale Force. He stayed by her side until she was well enough to start trying to walk again, and after that, he became a foster-brother and a confidant.

Fabala yawned as she rolled over. She wasn’t usually a heavy sleeper – she usually only slept until the East Window started to glow with the sunlight over the Grassland and she couldn’t hide from the next day anymore…why she had chosen to sleep in the High Tower, she’d never know. It was one of those impulse things she usually didn’t go by.
She dressed and closed the bag she had packed before walked down the stairs and rapped on the door at the landing. “Get up, Aran, before I decide to leave without you.” There was a muffled reply that sounded like Aran was still actually in bed. Fabala shook her head and walked back downstairs.
“Miss?” said one of the maids. Fabala turned, looking the Arjiki woman up and down. “I was…wondering…well…are you sure you’ll be alright that close to the Emerald City?” Fabala smiled and nodded. She grabbed an apple off of the kitchen table in passing and went to the door, looking, stunned, at the carriage waiting there.
“Surprised?” asked the Scarecrow from behind her. She turned, before nodding. “I thought you and Aran should travel to Shiz like any normal students.” She peered around her shoulder at the carriage, blinking at it. The Scarecrow shrugged – she could hear the straw shifting as he did so. “It’s the thought that counts, right, Faeba?”
She laughed. “Of course.” She said, hugging him.
“You’re mother’s working, but she sends her love. She says she’s on the right track this time.” The Scarecrow whispered. Fabala pulled away, delighted by the news.
“That’s…wonderful!” She said, before pulling away. She moved to the back of the coach and put her bag inside. She heard shuffling behind her, before a bag flew over her head and landed neatly on top of her own bag. She turned, eyeing Aran, who still looked as if he was half-asleep.
“Sorry, Fae.” He said. She winced at the nickname but didn’t say anything. The Quadling yawned widely, before getting into the carriage.
“Be careful!” Called the Scarecrow as Fabala got in next to him.
“We will be!” Fabala promised as she waved goodbye to the slowly shrinking figure. She settled down into the seat, closing her eyes. She could feel Aran shifting uncomfortably next to her, but ignored it. They stayed like that for a long time and when Fabala opened her eyes again, trees were coming into being. The Vinkus River, however, was still next to them. “Where are we?” She asked to Aran, who seemed to be lost in thought.
He jumped at the sound of her voice. “Oh…we’re in Gillikin. Shiz is coming into view, actually. We’ve been following the Vinkus River until it became the Gillikin River.” He seemed a little out of sorts, but Fabala figured it was because of what had happened seven years previous. Finally, Aran looked at her, nervous. “Faeba…Fabia…er…this should be easier…” He took a deep breath, before holding out a necklace. It was a hat with emeralds encrusted on the sides. “My…my mother made this. It’s the only thing I can remember- her making this necklace and using the only two emeralds she had. It was when I was five, and she told me to give it to the one person I…well, I can’t remember the exact words…but she told me to give it to someone I love…and, well…after everything you’ve done for me, Fae, you’re the closest thing I can remember to ever having a sister and a friend and this is the only way I can repay you…please, take it?” His brown eyes seemed lost and Fabala looked at the intricate looking trinket for a few moments, before taking it and clasping it around her neck. She pulled her hair down and redid the braid, before hugging Aran close. She did feel a little disappointed though. He had given it to her because she was a friend, nothing more.
“Thank you, Aran. It means a lot to me.” She said quietly. She pulled away from him – he seemed dazed – as the carriage stopped. “Well, here we are.”
“Yes, here we are.” He repeated. They got out and Fabala pulled her bag out of the back of the carriage, Aran doing the same. They said their goodbyes and Fabala winced at the foreboding building in front of her before entering.
