WHAT DID IT COST?
Well this is what it always comes down to, the big question. What did it cost to rebuild this tractor?
I'm not going to try to itemize all the little details here though I did keep every receipt. Each project would be a little different depending on if you had to by a tractor or was doing one you already own and the condition of it at the start.
The first and most important thing to remember is after you buy it your going to find out that you could have bought it cheaper if you would have shopped around. So if at all possible it's better to take your time and don't rush.
We were lucky in that we already had this tractor and it was a runner to begin with. So I will basically cover the cost of the actual reconditioning such as paint and parts as we needed them to put this Farmall back into the shape it's in now.
Dad on our finished Farmall F-12
The biggest expense we had was the tires and we got a pretty good deal on them. We were looking for an earlier nostalgic tread design in a 10x38 but after checking it out we settled for 11.2 BF Goodrich modern tires because they were actually cheaper. We bought tires and tubes. The tires were a tubeless type but we had no idea what shape these rims were in we got from the bone yard and decided it was better to go with tubes. Our rear tires were $404.70 with tubes and we did the mounting ourselves. The rims were $75.00 at Gene's recycling so we had a total of $479.70 in the rear.
The front we got for $40.00 apiece… tires, tubes, flaps and mounted which was the best deal around. So it was $80.00 out the door. The fronts are also BF Goodrich, and they are three rib steers common to most tractors. So we had a total of 559.70 in putting new rubber all the way around.
Now everybody will probably want to paint their tractor so you're going to need items like sandpaper, wire wheels for the grinder and sand and a sand blaster. Paint and primer in the automotive line is expensive so believe it or not we went with aerosol cans. There are good choices and not so good choices in the aerosol line so get stuff to do the job. We ended up with a total of a little over $399.oo dollars for paint and supplies.
We purchased other items such as all the new seals for our gearbox and steering and wheels. Some used bone yard parts were needed as well as new decals and lining for our brakes. Let's face it if you want it right your going to spend some money.
We're pretty proud of how our project came out and we have a total of $1632.67 in it. Not bad all things considered. If you have questions about anything we might be able to help you out and you can get us at
