Attica called and said the rims were ready for us to pick up so I took off work about an hour early and dad and I headed down to pick them up. Well when we got there they had removed the wheels from the wrong tractor so we ended up waiting while they got the ones we originally picked out. The rims and tires cost us 75.00 a piece, they were rough but we needed them.

Got it up on jackstands and took the rear wheels off and we pulled the cover off the transaxle to take a peak at everything and we decided everything was good inside. We opted to replace every seal in the gearbox. We got all National seals at Action Auto, our local parts store in Norwalk, Ohio. Most IH part numbers are still good numbers or can be interchanged. Seals can also be ordered by dimension.

We put a steel sawhorse under the frame rails and pulled the steer wheels off today and the rest of the brake parts from the transaxle and cleaned primed and painted a few of the smaller pieces. We could not remove the cast iron steering wheel from the column, we tried everything, heat and beat and pulled and nothing was working.
We had wear at the bushing where the column is supported so after lots of thought and fear of breaking our cast teering wheel we decided to cut the column at the bushing area where it was wore and we will later weld it and re-size it. We took measurements and recorded them so all will be back to original standards.

Well we picked up most of the seals we needed for the transaxle today and started installing them. We started wire wheeling the transaxle down also and getting it ready for primer.

We were looking through the new parts book we bought and noticed the belt drive pulleys were listed. We new there was a few of them in the old barn and looked to see if we had any for our F-12 and we found two of the standard size pulleys with the right part numbers. We got one cleaned and painted and got one for trade…cool.
