We got this idea to strap the gas tank to the wheel of the Massy while we were mowing with some floor dry in it and let it knock the rust and such loose and kinda help in the cleaning process. We did and the inside is beautiful, but one of our bunji straps wasn’t tight enough or some thing because the tank must have bounced against the rim. Now the best looking F-12 gas tank in the state of Ohio ain’t. Well now we got more bodywork to do. We went ahead and sanded it down and put some primer on it and set it aside for now.

Andy wired on the old seat and I cleaned and organized a little bit today. Things are getting a little outta hand and its getting harder to find the tools and all, so this seemed like the time to stop and regroup. We did go ahead and loosen the steer tower (bolster) and engine mounting bolts and removed the front pieces the cultivators were attached to.

This is a front view of the steer tower and the cultivator mounting brackets. .
Dad has been wire wheeling every nut and bolt as we go; the original bolts have a little nipple on the center of the head and since we only broke two so far we thought it would be nice to have all the original bolts. We will be sure to put the square and carriage bolts back in their proper place also

Well we got the backhoe out today, we decided it would be the proper tool to pull the steer tower and the engine.

Well the tower was removed and the engine is on the stand.
Now all we have is the two frame rails sticking out from the end of the transaxle and it don’t look like much now.

Today we got a lot done on the transaxle as far as prepping for paint. We finished wiring the complete unit down after removing the frame rails. We gave it a good cleaning got it in primer. I got on the computer and did some more research and found that in May of 1936 the McCormick-Deering paint committee put out a letter and all tractors and power units would be painted IH truck red with red wheels.

We made another trip to the bone yard early today for a decent set of brake levers, one of ours was broke and the other had a pipe shoved over it. We found a set that was rough but we had that busted one and needed them so we spent the $25.00. When we got home we put in some more time putting the cleaned up frame rails back on the transaxle and stood the whole thing on end so we could get the bottom in paint.
We were quite pleased with the way the paint went on. It was getting late and we decided to call it a day.
It’s red.
Aaahhhh…. it issss… isn’t it.

We check over the paint from the other day and thought it looked pretty good so we decided to get the frame rails prepped and painted. We also installed the PTO shift lever and finished the day painting some of our other parts.

Dad cleaned on parts all day and I worked on prepping the top cover for paint. We ran into a little problem on the transaxle cover, noticed it was cracked around the area where the steering column support bolts on so had to weld it up. Dad called it a day and Andy and myself went back out after dinner and finished the top cover and installed the gearshift lever.
