| The Immortals |
| Wild Magic Very apt title for this series. Long ago, mages put a barrier between the mortals and immortals. Now, Emperor Ozorne, ruler of Carthak, a desperate country with bad crops, uses this knowledge on the barrier to create trouble. Orphaned Daine with a tragic past comes to Tortall to seek a new life, leaving her past one behind. She is hired by Ouna, horse mistress of the Queen’s Riders and meets an assortment of unusual people. There is a mention of Alanna and co. to tell you about their state of progeny if they have any in the first place. Daine meets possible future love interests and discovers that she has Wild Magic. Hence, the title of the book. She uses it to help negotiate a treaty with the gryphons, help throw off the attack at Pirate’s Swoop, let the rider trainees temporarily admire deer, give warning with approaching immortals and more… Wolf Speaker Daine goes to the aid of her wolf friends in Dunlath Valley. There, she meets, as usual, a variety of friends. From one friend who can turn things into stone to a friend who can climb and swing from tree to tree easily. There is a plot abrewing at Dunlath’s keep and Daine is separated from Numair by a magical barrier. A huge environmental disaster on the prowl, as well as a couple of strong mages and mercenaries, who dabble in treason and illegal activities, can Daine stop the baddies and save the day? Emperor Mage A peace delegation is sent to Carthak consisting of Daine, Numair, Alanna, the Gareths and more. Daine goes to heal the emperor’s birds which are mysteriously ill. They show signs of poisoning, who or what could be possibly sabotaging the birds? Daine gets a visit by Badger who gifts her with a unique gift, that gets quite out of hand… Numair runs into a past, er hum, companion of his who is now working of Ozorne. Will he be too taken in by her to realise the danger Ozorne poses? Realm of the Gods The barrier is down and immortals galore terroise the mortal realms! Daine and Numair gets attacked by mysterious beings who are invincible to Numair’s powers! Will they (Daine and Numair, of course, not the beings) get out of it without being turned into hunks of stone? Daine and Numair pay an unexpected visit to the Realm of the Gods. They discover Daine’s mother’s secret, divine meddling in the mortal realms, a dangerous enemy is on the prowl and more… |
