Frequently Asked Questions

Where and when is tutoring offered?
Tutoring takes place at the Mississauga Central Library, which is located near Square One at 301 Burnhamthorpe Road West. Students will generally come in for one-hour sessions either in the morning or the afternoon on either the weekdays or weekend. Evening sessions may also be arranged.

It is recommended that students register for twelve one-hour sessions. For those attending a four-week summer school course, this translates to three hours per week. Longer sessions or more hours can also be arranged.

I am in summer school during July. Should I get a tutor, and do you offer tutoring services for summer school?
Yes, we certainly offer tutoring for summer-school students. If you are taking a math or science course, you may be somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of material that must be covered in a compressed time frame. A tutor can help you explore concepts at a deeper level so that you are successful in the course; as well, because you may need to use the skills and knowledge for future studies, you will be better-positioned to succeed in high school and beyond.
I am not taking summer school. Do I receive high-school credits for learning a new course from William Li & Associates Tutoring Services?
No, but we consider this to be an advantage. The Ontario Ministry of Education mandates that the marks for all attempts at a course are recorded in your Ontario Student Transcript, which is submitted to universities during the application process. If this course is part of your prerequisites to your preferred university program, this may negatively affect your chances for entry.

Why should I learn material from a new course during the summer?
By becoming familiar with course material, you will have greater success when you do take the course in regular day school for the first time. This is significant because it makes it unlikely that you will have to repeat the course to achieve a better mark, which can be a huge burden. Moreover, the non-summer months are stressful, and you can reduce your workload to devote more time to a part-time job, volunteer work, or other commitments. If you are entering your final year of high school, other considerations include researching, applying for, and selecting post-secondary destinations and applying for scholarships. In short, you can make life easier for yourself in the coming months while still having plenty of time to enjoy your summer!
