Power Lines
Or, What's in a Dream?
Dreams can be learning experiences, if we let them. A dream that repeats itself many times over the years is probably trying to tell you something. So, I thought about my own dreams, and I realized that I indeed had something to learn.
The dream is this: I'm flying. Sometimes I'm in an airplane, sometimes I'm just flapping my arms really hard, sometimes my car can fly (and I really think that would be cool!), how dosn't matter so much as the fact that I am indeed above the ground and trying to gain altitude. But there's a problem. And it's always the same problem. I'm trying to gain altitude, but there's these power lines in the way! And no matter how I try to time my approach, I just can't make the angle to get through them to go up. And if I do make the gap, and try to go up, all of a sudden there's another set of power lines in my way that I can't get past.
So, one day after having this dream it occured to me what it means! There's part of myself, represented by the power lines, that is always holding myself back from doing things. Looking for jobs, dealing with relationships, even just performing day to day tasks, I hold myself back for no apparent reason. Wow, what a revelation! But what do I do about it? My therapist suggested I write out a conversation with the power lines, and see where it led me. The result is on the following pages.

I've also made a blog out of the infamous Morning Pages and posted them here, so you can read them and laugh at me.
Like my writing? There's quite a bit to be found on my Poetry Page. The truly massochistic can even visit my personal site.
