Holy Cross's 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Sunday, June 8th, was the most successful to date. Not only was the weather perfect, making for pleasant playing conditions, but we had a record number of golfers - 136, or 34 teams. Participation in the pre-tourney contests - Putting, Chipping, and the Driving Range Wreck 50/50 - was excellent.
The banquet was also excellent and an additional 27 people joined their friends or spouses for the meal only. Seating arrangements were much improved over last year and the program proceeded at a quick pace. Our thanks to MC Michael Ball of CKRM Sports and The Wolf.
There were prizes for every team member, plus contest prizes (winners are listed below), and another 80 door prizes for which all 163 in attendance were eligible. We are grateful for the wonderful support of the community as sponsors and prize donors, and especially those from Holy Cross Parish.
Special thanks go to the Golf Committee which put in hundreds of hours over the past few months putting this event together and getting the support required. In addition, there were volunteers who helped us out on tournament day.
Golf Committee Members: Reg Hinz Brad Holmes Tony Howell Chris Nicholson Greg Schultz Harry Selinger Warren Smith Gerald Workman James Wahl Cal & Joyce Murphy Harvey & Phyllis Kennedy Bob & Kathy Liska
Volunteers: Aaron & Nicole Liska Edwin & Magdalina Pepper and the Christian service volunteers from Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School who provided yeoman service at the contests and on the course.
The three pre-tournament contests plus 50/50 at the banquet earned a total of $872 including donations by both 50/50 winners who returned their winnings or a portion thereof for the church.
We had nine $200 major sponsors, and 36 $100 green and tee box sponsors for a total of $5,400 in sponsorships, equaling last year's total. Included in these sponsorships are Holy Cross parishioners:
Book & Brier Patch -- John Kress Larry LeBlanc, QC Capital Pontiac - Don McIntee Holy Cross CWL
