The Witkover Old Family Picture Page

Welcome to the Witkover's Old Family Photo Page

I came across some old family photographs and was amazed at the quality of the images and their state of preservation. Some of these were taken as long as 100 years ago but look as brilliant today as they must have when they were new. The sharpness and detail of the originals will probably not be apparent over the web, but it was worth a try. The first batch I will put on are from my paternal grandfather's side as I have recently been awakened to the possibility that there might be other Witkovers out there (Thanks Aviva).

This is a picture of my Great-Grandfather Benjamin Witkowski. It is mounted on heavy cardboard and bears the name of the photographer or his studio, "Nemo" and the city, Kalisz in Poland where it was taken. I have no date but I am sure it was before 1900.

Here is a photograph of my grandfather Jacob and his three sisters. I don't know the date but I would guess it was about 1890. The oldest sister was called Rachela. This is the most beautifully printed and preserved of the pictures. It too wa a product of "Nemo". I have no idea why they are dressed up in these costumes.

Somewhere along the way from Poland to the USA via England my Grandfather's name was changed to Jacob Witkover. I don't know where this was taken; it could have been in any of the 3 places. It was not mounted on cardboard the way the others were so I would guess it was in England or the US.

This is The wedding photo of my grandparents, taken in New York City. I have no date but I would guess somewhere about 1905-1910.
