Huntly Castle
June 17, 20000
Huntly Castle is the home of the Gordon Clan. Since my uncle and aunt are Gordons, we had to stop by. Much of the castle is still standing, although it has been abandoned since the mid-17th century and served as a local stone quarry. The castle is notable for an elaborate stone frontispiece which has been called the most splendid heraldic doorway in the British Isles. In the basement prison, you can read the graffiti left by prisoners in the dungeon.Historic Scotland Logo

After visiting the castle, we had lunch at the Castle Hotel. The Hotel is the former home of the Duke of Gordon.
