Dunnottar Castle June 18, 2000 | |
Dunnottar Castle, south of Aberdeen near Stonehaven, is one of Scotland most impressive ruined castles. Built in the 9th century, this seaside fortress was the site of many bloody battles including a siege by William Wallace in 1297 which ended when Wallace burned the entire English garrison alive. The castle's setting, jutting out into the North Sea, is truly spectacular. From Dunnottar we headed south and went toward Perthshire and Glamis Castle. |
