Stirling
June 20, 2000
Our last stop in Scotland was Stirling Castle. The castle is one of the most important in Scottish history. Set between the Highlands and Lowlands, it overlooked of some of the most famous battles in Scotland including William Wallace's victory over the English in 1297 and Robert the Bruce's victory at Bannockburn in 1314 that won Scotland's independance.Historic Scotland Logo

Stirling was a military base for many years, and a number of historic areas were turned into barracks and such. However, these areas are now being restored to their original condition including the Great Hall which was the largest in Scotland.

From Stirling, we drove south to Wigan in England where we spent the night with the parents of one of Sue's friends from Leeds University. Then it was back to Manchester Airport and a flight home.
