Instructions for installing Ventrilo

The first thing you need to do is go to http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php and download Ventrilo (choose the first downloadable file down the page which should be the Client program running on the Windows platform). Naturally after doing that you need to install Ventrilo on your machine.

The next steps are pretty easy; Ventrilo is probably the easiest voice chat program out to install and setup.

Once you get the e-mail with the information from MacManus, we will walk you through setting up Ventrilo.

The first thing you need to do is create an account name (YOUR ACCOUNT NAME MUST BE THE SAME OR SIMILAR TO YOUR BNET ACCOUNT NAME!!). You will do this by clicking on the right arrow beside user name it will look like this ( -> ). Once the next screen opens click "new". Then enter your user name. Phonetic, description, and Work Dir leave blank as they are not needed.

Secondly you will setup the server. Click on the right arrow ( -> ) beside where it says sever. Once the next screen opens click on "new". Enter xx xxxx (that is server name*. This information is provided by MacManus via e-mail). Next you will enter IP address which is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (This information is provided by Macmanus via e-mail). Next is the port number which is xxxx (This information is provided by Macmanus via e-mail). Last is password which is: xxx (This information is provided by Macmanus via e-mail).

After that is completed click connect. Once you are connected you need to setup your sound and microphone. To accomplish that click the setup button located on the left side of Ventrilo's dialog box. Once that window is open the first thing we will do is setup up your sound card (for most windows xp users this is done already). On the left side of the screen you will see 5 drop down boxes. Starting with the first one "output device" you need to select your sound card, there will only be two options either your sound card or default wave mapper. Next go to "input device" and select your sound card, once again there will only be two options your sound card or default wave mapper. Next go to "mixer" and select your sound again, once again there will only be two options your sound card or none. Onto to "mux" now it should be set at recording control(#). Last is to select "line" pick microphone out of the options listed.

Ok the left side of the screen you will see several boxes make sure you (click on the boxes) enable outgoing voice communications, use push-to-talk hotkey, and use directinput to detect hotkey. Now we will setup your hotkey. You will see a window saying "hotkey" left click on the window and it will say "mouse1" once you have done that you can set it up for most any key on your keyboard including your left, right or middle mouse button. A lot of the clan members use the caps lock button for the hotkey. But it is a matter of personal preference.

Were it says test with none of that needs to be changed.

Finally onto to testing (this is only for those that have a microphone). Click on the test button and than whatever your hotkey is and say something (for example "test, test, test") release your hotkey and you should hear yourself.

Your outbound and inbound you will have to play with to get it setup correctly for your machine. Outbound controls how loud you are to the other members and inbound controls how loud they are to you. Just keep in mind that these changes affect everyone on the clan so one person might not be able to hear you very well, while another is getting their ear drums blasted :). Same goes for inbound you might not hear one person very well, while another person is blasting your eardrums. So you will have to adjust it for your comfort.

* = Type in wm saints exactly as you see it. wm (space) saints
# = This only applies to those with a microphone.

If you run into any problems look for St_seadog on b.net or seadog on Ventrilo or e-mail MacManus@wmsaints.com. Another nice thing about Ventrilo is not only can you voice chat but you can also go into a chat channel and type back and forth. So no matter what, we will get you connected!
