Easter Eggs

What are Easter Eggs?

Colored or dyed eggs used in the celebration of Easter as an affirmation of life found in the "birth" of spring after the "death" in winter.

For video games...

Easter Eggs are inside jokes that programmers and developers place in games. They can range from simple cheats to cameos.

So cheats are Easter Eggs?

Kinda sorta. Some cheats are Easter Eggs and some Easter Eggs are cheats. If there are only one or two cheats in a game I would consider them Easter Eggs, but if there is a whole #$)(* load of them then they are just cheats.

Huh?

Let me reiterate again that Easter Eggs are jokes. The are suppose to be funny. Take NBA Jam for the SNES and Gens. In that game there are a lot of hidden characters. I would consider playing as Larry Bird a cheat, while playing as Prince Charles an Easter Egg.

Ohhh.

Duuhhhhh.

The Easter Eggs
Banjo Tootie N64 In Bottle's House the kids have posters of Gemini Force another game from Rare. Another one holds a doll of Donkey Kong. Some of the boxes in Grinchy Industries are labeled with the same codes as Luke's storm trooper ID while on an Imperial Cruiser in Star Wars. Saberman in Hailfire Peaks is the name of the hero from another game produced by Rare.
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest NES First off all the towns real in Transylvania or puns of some sort, Ghulash Ghoulish. In the town of Oldon a guy says "Don't look into the death star or you will die." I believe he is talking about the moon or an unlucky star rather than Star Wars.
Conker's Bad Fur Day N64 The entire game, period. No really ... Banjo is mounted over the fire in the Cock and Plucker, (see Cheats.) and Kazooie is a umbrella head in the closet, (see Chapters). Also the game has direct movie allusions to Alien, Terminator, Saving Private Ryan, Brahm Stroaker's Dracula, Godfather, Jaws, some army movie in 'Nam, the Matrix, Wizard of Oz (look at the fallen windmill), and probably more that I can't think of.
Chrono Trigger SNES Vicks and Wedge from the introduction of Final Fantasy VI (US III SNES) are working in the Tent Of Horrors at the Millennium Fair.
Final Fantasy NES You can find Link's or Edrick's grave in the Elf Town. Link is the hero of the Legend Of Zelda (NES) series, and Edrick is the ancestor of the knights in the Dragon Warrior/Quest (NES) series.
Final Fantasy IV (US II) SNES All of the mountains are suppose to look like the Square logo. In the hard type the is a hidden room in the Dwarf Bar where you meet the programmers and can see a porno, (the characters not you).
Final Fantasy VIII PS The story that Ramen asks you to place together is a portion of the plot of Final Fantasy II (Jap).
Final Fantasy Legend III GB The family of the main character of FFL2, Captain, Mom, and hero, are in the town of Ghot in Pureland.
Illusion Of Gaia SNES If you collect all the Red Gems you fight the first Boss of Soul Blazer (SNES) which is the prequel to the game.
Kid Icarus NES The Komayto in the Skyworld are actual visiting Metroids of Zebes from the game Metroid (NES).
Kirby's Dreamland GB First off Kirby is named after a vacuum cleaner. Second Lolo and Lala are Lolo and Lala from the Adventures of Lolo (NES) series also produced by Hal.
Konami Games Every game every produced by Konami has this password Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, A, B, Start. Input that at the title screen. The code's functions vary game to game but often is is increase lives. Also the code may change slightly per system. For example on the SNES it may be Up, Down, Up, Down, L, R, L, R, A, B, A, B, Start; where the Lefts and Rights are replaced with L's and R's.
The Legend Of Zelda Nintendo Now is has been customary that if you attack a chicken repeatedly a whole bunch of them will attack Link.
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time N64 Look into the windows of Zelda's garden to see pictures of Mario, Princess, Luigi, and Bowser.
Metroid NES Enter the code JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------ to play as Samus with five Veneer Tanks, 255 Missiles, the Wave Beam, Screw Attack, High Jump Boots and no armor.
Megaman II NES Press A and B while choosing a Robot Master to see Bomber Birds in stead of stars in the background.
Megaman VI SNES When you beat the game and receive the thank you from Capcom message, jot down the numbers at the bottom of the screen. Input them as a password and press L and R at the same time when you press start. You'll now have a two player Street Fighter type game with Megaman and Bass.
Megaman Legends PS, N64 Wiley the shrimp boat captain is a direct allusion to Dr. Wiley the megalomaniac villain of the Megaman series.
Megaman Legends 2 PS Somewhere in the game Megaman finds an diary in which he finds out that Barrel named him after a comic book character, which is believe to be the original Megaman.
Megaman X SNES If you get all 4 armor upgrades, 8 heart tanks, 4 sub tanks, and defeat the bosses, you can get a special fire ball like in Street Fighter. Go to Armored Armadillo stage. At the last mine cart jump off early and scale the wall above the boss chamber gate. Get the energy capsule and use Exit V. Repeat this five times. At the fifth there is a capsule with Dr. Light in a Ryu get up. You can only use the fire ball if you are at full energy.

River City Randsom NES The Dragon Twins at the highschool are supose allude to be Billy and Jimmy Lee from the Double Dragon (NES) series which was also produced by Technos. They even have the same theme music.
Secret Of Evermore SNES There's a few. Relm, Strago, Umaro, and Locke from Final Fantasy VI (US III SNES) are watching the fight in a front box while the Boy fights Vigor in the Coliseum. Cecil the hero from Final Fantasy IV (US II SNES) is the inn/shop keeper of Ebon Keep. The prophet in Nobilia knows that This is all a video game. We are at the mercy of our button pressing over lord.
Secret Of Mana SNES There is a face in the ocean where Ice Country and the Empire cross. There is another one in the mountains of the Empire. Also somtimes National Scars in the Mana Palace and Mana Fotress show a picture of a naked girl.
Star Fox SNES While in the Asteroid Belt in Mission 3 shoot down the first big blue asteroid down. From it will hatch a bird. Fly into it and blast into another dimension. Beat the slot machine boss and see the end. (Trust me there's nothing else to see after the letters come.)
Super Mario RPG SNES Link will be sleeping at Gaz's Inn if you spend the night. Samus Aran is the guest at the Mushroom Palace after Starhill and before Land's End. Culex, a secret boss in Monstro Town, is definitely an allusion or character from Final Fantasy. Even the battle music is the same as the boss music from Final Fantasy VI (US II). Also there is a model Arwing from StarFox (SNES), in Hino Mart in the Barrel Volcano.
Uninvited NES In the grave yard you can find the tomb of Ace the main character of Deja Vu another game of this style.
Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic (Dream Castle Crazy Crazy Panic) Famicom First off the Famicom is what the NES was based on. Next, Super Mario Bros. 2 the US was this game with only the sprites changed to the Mario characters. Any how the Star and POW block in this game (Doki Doki Panic) are Easter Eggs alluding to the Mario Bros.
