SaGa II Instruction Manual

Story
Seventy-seven MAGI are the legacy of the gods and create the mystical statue of the goddess Isis. Many has fought for them to become gods and now new struggles are arising.

Races
Humans
The most common and strong of the races. They can use up to eight items which increase their abilities. When they battle there skills increase randomly.
Mutant
An older race with magical powers. They can hold up to eight item which four of them can be special skills. They learn their skills over time and have the last one replaced when they learn a new one. For normal stats they develop over time but slower than humans. Their special skills can be replaced by staying at an inn.
Robots
Mechanical entities of the world. They are immune to paralysis and poison and can hold up to seven items. They increase their stats by equipping with more items. When they equip with non skill weapons the usage is decreased in half. However if a robot stays at an inn the weapons are replenished. Also unlike humans and mutants they can wear as many of the same armor types as they want, e.g. three helmets.
Monsters
Tame beasts of the world they live in society. They rely solely on their various skills and cannot change status. If a monster eats the meat of another monster they will change into a new one with different stats. If the meat is from a stronger monster you change into a stronger monster and vice versus.
When you start the game you will be able to create a party of the main character and three of his/her/it's classmates. One human, mutant, robot, and monster create a great balance of races for the player's enjoyment. Two mutants and two robots are an expensive team but go through the game quickly. Four robots or four monsters are not recommended for unlike other characters they cannot increase their skills easily and fall.

Non Playing Characters (NPC's)
These are characters that join and leave your party during the game for story line. You can only control them in battle and if you press B while on the map screen they give you a hint.
Mr. S
This is your teachers who follows you because he is worried for his students.
Ki
She is a cleric at the Shrine of Isis who heals the sick.
Mask
A mysterious man who is skilled in fighting.
Lynn
A girl who lives with her sick mother whose father is gone.

The Map Screen
Here is where most of the game play is. On the screen will be the character symbol of the member that is first and the surrounding environment. The player moves around and interacts with the world. In the game there are two types of maps, up close and world. They both are the same style but differ in range of view. You would be in up close if you were in a town and see and go into the different buildings. The world view would be if you were outside the town and show it as a block of two small houses. When in the world map you will be randomly attacked by monster parties.
Fields/Deserts/Jungle/Scrub
Here are the open areas of the worlds with free movement around.
Town
Represented by two small houses, this is were you shop and talk to people of the land.
Cave
A hole in the earth, these may be paths to new lands or treasure. Monsters are sure to be stronger inside and on the other sides of caves.
Mountains
These are high peaks that the party cannot travel over.
Forests
Wood lands that the party traverses through but be careful. Monsters inhabit forests better than fields and attack people more often.
Shrines/Palaces
Beautiful building usually dedicated to gods these are sources of aid and refuge since monsters don't attack in them.
Sand storms
Natural storms that brew because of the weather. While in a sand storm you can't see around you and are subjected to the wind pushing you as it pleases.
Cactus
Symbols of life in the desert. These are often used as guide posts.
Towers
What's on the top usually is important.

Battle
When randomly walking on the map you may be attacked and go into battle mode. Here it is a standard text battle consisting of rounds. You are prompt to either fight or run. If you run you attempt to run and if you succeed the battle is over. If you fight you are prompted to have each character move with their equipped items. Note that the number of enemies is placed by their name so Gang 3 means there are three Gang enemies even if there is one picture. After you select them the battle round proceeds with everyone performing. If one side is completely eliminated the battle is over. If you win you will receive GP and possible level increases, an item, or a piece of monster meat. You will be prompted to have a character eat the meat. Remember that meat only affects the monster by changing it into a new one.

Death
If a character loses all HP they will become stunned and cannot move. However when the battle they return to normal and with on HP. IF all players are stun then you lose and die. You then will be transported to a strange place and be given a deal. You can either fight again and start the battle over or end. If you end the game returns to the title screen.

Town
In town you meet people and are able to recover, get new items, or information. Talk to people by walking up to the and pressing A. In town their are no monster attacks and three types of buildings. You can sell any item at any shop.
Houses
These are where people live.
Weaponry
These shops sell weapons to the characters.
Item
These shops sell armor, spells, and recovery items.
Inn
Here you can stay for one GP for each HP healed. Special skills and robot weapons are also healed if you stay regardless if you are not wounded and therefore stay you free.
Pub
A gathering place of travelers. Here you can buy refreshments for 10GP (gold pieces) and listen to the songs of the game and the Jukebox for 1GP.

Menus
When you press start or select you bring up the sub screens. When you press you see the line up of your members. Select two of them to switch their places. Those on the top are more likely to be attacked by monsters and those at the bottom least. When you press start you have the sub screen that displays your characters and their HP's (hit points). It also displays the GP you have and the number of MAGI you have. On the left hand side of the screen is the various commands.
Abil
The abil screen prompts you to select a character. When you do, all of their stats are displayed. You have their chibi (small picture), HP and maximum HP, the name of their race, the items they hold and their stats. Here you can select an item twice to use it (mostly with mutant or monster Skills), or you can select two to swap them. Here are what the stats mean.
Strength
This is you strong a character is. The higher the number the more damage they can inflict.
Agility
This is the agility of a character. Agility in this game is how well they are ability to dodge an attack, how well they will land an attack (especially for range weapons), and the order they will attempt their attack.
Defense
Higher numbers mean the character can better absorb damage and suffer less HP loss.
Mana
This is the magical skill. Higher numbers mean that the characters can use spells and learned skills more effectively.
Items
This will bring up the item screen. Here are the items that are not equipped, don't confuse this with the items that mean how much stuff a character can hold. Select an item twice to use it. Select two items to swap their place, and select an item and the trash can to throw it away.
Equip
This will prompt you to select a character to edit what they are carrying. When you have them you can select a item or blank space. When you do the Item screen will appear. Select a blank space to unequip an item or select an item to equip it.
MAGI
In the game you will collect MAGI and here is where you control them. You can equip or use the MAGI.
Equip
Because using MAGI will make you god and that is too dangerous you can equip it to use it. When you equip with one you unofficially (i.e. it doesn't appear in Abil) gain abilities for the appropriate MAGI, e.g. MAGI Fire will increase the fire skills of a mutant when equipped, or make them more prone to learn a fire skill, etc.
Use
This is when you try to use the MAGI. e.g. when you use the MAGI Prism you will be told the number of remaining MAGI in the world.
Memo
This command will display your notes. Whenever you talk to a person you record and order it in the memo.
Save
This is where you save your game in one of the three files of the cartridge. You can save anytime and your saved game is exact to what it is when you save it (i.e. same place, HP, Skills and weapon usage, etc.)

The Celestial World
The world of Finale Fantasy Legend II is that of the Celestial world. The Celestial world is a place in space of crystalline platforms that are connected by the Pillar of the Sky. The Pillar of the Sky look like giant beanstalks but are really elevators. With the Pillar of the people can travel to the various worlds (nine) each unique and separate of themselves. However there are doors that open only when a person has a certain amount of MAGI to pass. Also in the Celestial World there are no monster attacks.

Items of Battle
These are the main items that the members equip. They are primarily used in/for battle.
Weapons
Various implements for attacks, the members use these to damage monsters. With each weapon there is a number by it. Each time you use it the number goes down, and when it is zero the weapon is gone. However when equipped with a robot the weapon will be zero. If the robot stays at an inn its weapon usage will be replenished.
Armor
These are items used to increase defense. Humans and Mutants can only carry one type of armor at a time (armor, helmet, boots, shield, and gantlet), the robot can carry as many types, and the monster can't carry any. All of them are permanent with the exception of the shield. The shield doesn't increase defense (with the exception of the robot) but it actually is used in battle. If you want to block an attack or use a shield with a special ability (e.g. Fire Shield) use it and the player will hold it up for the turn. Like weapons they have usage's and will become useless.

Magic
The special Skills of the Mutants and Monsters pertaining to non-bodily actions (e.g. nail), and spell books are the magic of the game. They fall into four categories.
Offensive
Magic that does damage such as Fire or Blizzard are of the combative type. They are very useful in battles.
Non-Combative
These are magi that hinders the enemy but don't deal damage. Such effects are to change status, remove abilities, or even cause death. (Death doesn't deal damage to or rely on HP).
Defensive
These skills enhance the members ability and are what they say; e.g. Warning enables the player to avoid monster attacks.
Healing
This type is just for restoring characters HP, condition, or life.

Item Items
These are the basic items used during the game.
Recovery
These items either cure HP, such as Motions Cure, X-Cure, or Potion Elixir, or recover status. The status ones either name the condition or what is needed to heal it; Potion Soft for stoned, Potion Curse for cursed, and Potion Eye Drops for blindness. These can often be bought at item stores.
Status Items
These items increase the status ability of their name. All increase ability by three points and Potion Body increase Maximum HP up to forty.
Other Items
These are of three items; the Door transports the party to visited places, the Tent is a foldable house which acts like an inn, and any item that can be bottled.

Status
Sometimes in battle a player will be inflicted with a status change in battle. Here are the changes and their effects:
Blindness You cannot see and therefore are prone to miss when fighting.
Curse You cannot move due to the curse.
Sleep You are asleep and don't do anything, you however wake up after battle.
Paralyze You're body is numb and uncontrollable.
Stone Turned into a statue you can't move or receive damage.
Poison With a poison in your body you lose HP each turn. You eliminate it after battle.
Confusion While unknowing from friend or foe you attack randomly.
Stun The player received too much damage and has fainted.
