SaGa III Instruction Booklet

Story
Millenia ago beings from another dimension waged war against each other become the ruler of a place called the Pureland. The beings were immortal and this spurned them to create greater instruments of death. The battles were so great they rocked other dimensions and time itself.
And so because of the lost of his universe, Sol, the ruler of The World, created the time and space ship called the Talon, which could travel faster than light and through other dimensions. With the Talon, Sol sealed the beings in their own wasted dimensions.
After saving his world Sol divided the mechanisms of the Talon into thirteen units and willed them into various places in history and the Pureland. Then Sol fell into a deep sleep.
Centuries passes and the beings of Pureland banded together to get revenge on Sol. A thunderclap sounded throughout all of time which brought the coming of the Pureland Water Entity. Shimmering and protected by magic, the Entity poured forth putrid waters flooding all of time. From this water monster came forth searching for something.
The Elder of Dharm, a city sealed from the water, knew that the monsters were looking for the units of the Talon. If the world was to be saved the units must be gathers before the monsters found them and the world being swallowed.

Menu Screen
This can be reached with the start button. It displays the characters, their HP and MPs, GP, and the various commands.
Item
Here the items you have obtained are here. To use an item select it twice, then if needed the person to use it. To change the order of items select the two slots you wish to exchange. To remove an item select that item and the garbage can. You can hold up nine of any type of item.
Magic
Here you use magic, primarily healing types. First select the person who want to use magic. At the spell list you can use the person's magic like items however you "throw" away spells into the item list. To use magic you must have sufficient MP.
Talent
Here displayed are the talents of a person. In the top menu are the talents that only come when you are an enemy race. You can use these talents like spells. In the second section are the natural strengths and weakness to elements and status changes. An O means immunity and a X means weakness. Talents don not use MP.
Status
Here the character, race, condition, HP, MP, experience, experience till the next level up, and there stats.
Strength: the ability to use heavy weapons
Defence: the ability to absorb damage
Agility: the ability to dodge attacks, land attacks, order of movement in battle, the use of light weight weapons
Magic: the ability to use magic skillfully
Hit: the ability to land a weapon attack
Evade: the ability to dodge a physical attack
Magic Defence: the ability to defend magic and talent attacks
Magic Evade: the ability to dodge magic and talent attacks
Equip
Here a characters weapon, and armors are changes. A character can carry one weapon, shield, helmet, armor (breast plate), gauntlet, shoes, and two miscellaneous pieces. The miscellaneous pieces defend against status and magic attacks. Also displayed here are the characters stats and what they are when equipment is changed. To change equipment select the slot you want to change then a piece corresponding to it on the item list.
Auto
Here you can set the automation of the characters. When a character is on auto they fight automatically in battle, like a monster. One person must not be on auto though.
Save
Here you can save your game as is in one of three slots.

Battle
While wandering on the map screen, in dungeons, and talking to certain people battle may break out. It is the standard text base battle in which each side choose moves, executes them, and if one side is dead the other wins. Battle mode has three moves fight, run, and auto.
Run
You try to run a way fro the monsters. If you are successful the battle is over, if not you do nothing for one round. You cannot run from a boss fight.
Auto
Like the menu screen you can change the automation of your members. This does not take part of the fight.
Fight
Here you assign the battle maneuvers of you characters one by one. At first there are four commands of Weapon, Talent, Magic, and Item. Press start to access two other moves of Parry and Guard. When you have selected a move for each member the battle round follows. Information of the battle scroll at the bottom of the screen.
Weapon
Here you select which monster the member strike with their equipped weapon. Some weapons can attack more than one monster. To do so select a monster of the group you want to attack and press up untill the group is selected.
Talent
Here you select what talent you want to use on what monster or group if the talent is able to. Remember talents don't require MP and only non human/mutant races have "usable" talents.
Magic
Here you select what spell on what monster, person, group of persons or monsters if able to. Keep in mind that spells need MP to cast.
Item
Here you are able to use and item from the item list on a person or monster. Try using unequipped weapons on monsters. Also you can change a persons weapon by pushing up until you get to a window of the person's weapon and shield, select the weapon, then select the unequipped weapon you want to have. Re-equipping does not count as a move.
Parry
This has a character block attacks.
Guard
Here you select a character to protect. Now the member will take all the damage done to the member they are guarding.

Status Changes
Mute
unable to speak and therefore cast spells
Blind
unable to see and cannot land blows as well
Poison
poison deals damage each turn of battle
Curse
armor is useless and defence is lowered
Confuse
unable to tell friend from foe and attacks randomly
Sleep
asleep and doing nothing
Para
paralyzed and cannot move
Fell
all your HP is gone and you can't move
Stone
turned to stone and unable to move

Traveling
To continue in the game you must journey through many towns, lands, times, and dimensions. Getting around and information will be important.
Talk
If you are in a town you can talk to people by approaching them and pressing A.
Walk
Use the control pad to walk around. At first you can only walk on land, but latter you will be able to float in the sky, dive in the ocean, and pilot the Talon. Press B to jump around obstacles in the game such as pits.
Search
Something look suspicious or good. Search the area in front of you by pressing A.

Shops
In towns you talk to people and visit there various wares. In the world there are six types of shops. Buying and selling of items can be done at four of the shops and shops will buy an item at half the cost.
Weapon Shop
With a sword, the weapon shop sells items of battle.
Armor Shop
With a shield, the armor shop sells the various pieces of armor.
Magic Shop
With a wand, the magic shop sells the black, white, and lost magic spells.
Item Shop
With a pot, the item shop sells curative motions and robot parts.
Inn
Here the party sleeps one night for one gold piece per HP and MP needed to heal.
Coffee
With a cup, a local gathering for people important information can be heard.

The Talon
The legendary time and space ship Talon is the center of your quest. In order to save the world you will have to restore its units and utilize its power. To enter the Talon walk under its shadow and press start, to exit walk into the chute in the center of it. When you get it you are able to call the Talon to your location in time and space with Remote. In the talon you can talk to the crew members and people you find in your quest. At the front of the Talon is the control board with six functions.
Depart
Select this to fly the Talon.
Engine
Select a power of the engine.
Rover
able to cross land
Hover
able to cross land and water
Soar
able to cross all terrain
Warp
Use this to warp to different times and dimensions. Keep in mind a unit goes one to another with no cross overs; e.g. Past only goes past to present, you could not use it in Future.
Past

Weapon
Here you set the weapon the Talon will use. If you encounter battle while in the Talon it will fire an opening shot once. Set weapon to Shield to avoid all monster attacks.
Option
Here are miscellaneous units of the Talon. They are physically on the Talon and are used by walking into them.

Character Change
In battle sometimes an enemy leaves behind a piece of meat or part. These can be eaten or installed to change the race of the member who does so. In doing they receive new stats and talents. To revert to the original specie member can walk into the Flushex in the Talon--press select to change characters. In addition to human and mutant there are four other races in the world.
Human
A natural race of your members they are able to use heavy weapons as they are generally stronger. They rely on all types of armor to raise defenses.
Mutant
Similar to humans but generally weaker. They are skilled in magic and light weapons. They too rely on armor to raise defence.
Beast
A humanoid monster they increase power by raising level and eating meats of stronger beasts and monsters. They rely on armor to raise defence and are skilled in using techniques. Upon gaining a level a beast will change into a new one.
Monster
An advance race monsters use only talents, no equipment, for survival. They will permanently remain a monster throughout there growth in level. Monsters have high HP and a member receives 100% HP and MP of the monster added to their own HP and MP.
Cyborg
A humanoid machine they are like monster that they grow in level by installing parts of stronger Cyborgs. They rely on weapons and armor for defence but the better the equipment the better their stats. All pieces of equipment add HP and gloves and boots add MP. The downside to cyborgs is the retain 30% of the members HP and MP, 70% of attack, agility, and magic, and 20% of you defence.
Robot
Full machines they rely solely on there talent for attack, armor for defence, and have zero MP. They increase their status by installing parts (the pills). When a member installs a parts they retain that part as a robot even when they leave that status change.
