BULLETIN

St-Patrick’s Academy Old Boys Association Inc.

Dear Fellow Members:

Greetings and salutations to all. Our Christmas Party, the last of the millenium, will take place once again this year in St-Patrick's Church Hall on December 9th starting at 6 o'clock. The meal will be catered by the same people as formerly under the supervision of Gerry Largy and the price of admission will be $10.00. Members and wives and companions are welcome and may bring guests. Beer will be available at $2.00 a bottle and wine at $1.50 a glass. Do not miss this excellent opportunity to meet old friends and exchange Christmas greetings and catch up on the latest gossip.

Our regular monthly meeting for November was held at the Elk's Club in Sherbrooke and was well attended. Réjean Dubé reported on necessary repairs to the Parker Building following meetings with Mr. Roland Marois our carpenter. He described three possible scenarios for correcting the problems caused by water from the condensation of ice on the roof in winter. The least expensive at $3000.00 with about a 25% chance of success up to a $10,000.00 job with a 95% chance. Gerry Largy proposed a 4th possibility but with an unknown price-tag. Finally it was agreed that we should wait and see what happens this winter as temporary repairs have been done. Gilles Samson reported on a meeting with a notary, further to our efforts to be recognized as a non-profit association for the purpose of obtaining an income tax receipt number. According to the notary we would need to redefine the objectives of our association and opt for activities in the realm of religion, education, public good or the relief of poverty. We would need to define our activities to be compatible with one or more of these categories and modify our constitution in accordance. Much discussion followed with some members questioning the wisdom of continuing in this direction in view of the apparent lack of interest on the part of younger members and the ageing and increasing frustration of the present active members. After further discussion it was proposed and accepted that an evaluation of the property be obtained with a view to sale and donation of the proceeds to charity. It was further agreed that no changes be made to the constitution this year and changes would be necessary if a sale was to be made. There will be no meeting in December, the next meeting will be the annual general meeting at the Elk's Club on January 26th at 7 O.C.

As you can see our association is at a turning point and needs the support of all members in order to turn in the right direction. Please come to the Christmas Party and encourage the executive with your suggestions and opinions. It is important however that we know by Monday December 6th how many people are coming! Members in Sherbrooke may call Solo Parker at 562-9904, or Bill Power in Montreal at 514-687-6439.

Before closing I must report the passing of one member since our last bulletin that of Lorne MacPherson in Magog in November. Our condolences to the family and may he be remembered in our prayers.

Hoping to see a good turnout at our Christmas Party remember be brave, stay calm, wait for the signs.

Yours Truly,

John Murray, President
