in your
classroom!
It is
designed to generate some creative ideas and
lessons which link science standards with academic
content. Search this site for the links which will

General Information for Teachers
The Insect
Exchange and Fish
N' Chips Projects require Internet access, although
teachers can adjust the projects and perform similar
activities within their schools or classrooms. Participating
student groups and classrooms work collaboratively on
technology based science projects, which are mapped to meet
areas of the NY State Standards of Learning and specific
core classroom curriculum.
Description of
Projects
Two classes are matched based on classroom grade and
language (recommended for grades 1 - 8). The students in
each class write a description of a unique or imaginary
habitat. The habitat description will include all the
information necessary for another student to specifically
design an insect/fish for that habitat. This habitat
description will then be sent to the partner class and given
to a student. The student will design an insect/fish
(imaginary or using parts of a real insect/fish) that will
survive and flourish in the given ecosystem. The design will
include a detailed picture and a fact sheet containing
required information.

This site is selected as an example of how to
directly relate science standards to lessons.
Moreover, it is a springboard for questions and
ideas. For example, how could you improve this
lesson? How else might you try to meet the
standards? How might you incorporate other
standards into this lesson?
