Shopping
Tourists may like to visit downtown "Bada" for shopping.
Mrignayani is the official shop for handicrafts, Chanderi sarees and
other craft items. This shop is in Sarafa market near Bada (Ph: 2336545) and
is open from 11:30 am to 8 pm except Tuesday. There is a small souvenir shop on the Fort as well.
Taxis / Autorickshaws
I would recommend that for long rides (above 5-6 HRS), taxies (Cars or Vans) are a
good choice because buses are not luxurious and roads are not smooth all the
way.
Though meters are available in autorickshaws, they are never used.
Nor are they reliable because if you use meter, driver will take you
to many places before reaching the destination to increase the bill.
So always fix the fare before taking a taxi. Expense Guide Page will give you an idea about fares.
Extra charges are payable for halting, baggage and vehicles engaged between 2300 HRS to 0500 HRS.
In case of misbehavior or inappropriate fare contact traffic policemen who are available near
traffic lights in white uniform.
Public Transport
Private operators run a large fleet of city buses operating in the entire
city. The peak time hours are from 10 am to 12 am. and 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
The fare ranges from Re. 1 to Rs. 7.
Rent A Car
Several private operators in the city offer this facility.
You would also find rental cars in railway station parking area.
Rental cars have yellow numberplates with black text written on them.
Normal van is available for Rs.400-450 with the limit of maximum 8 hours or 75 Kms (46.6 Miles).
I have recommended an agency for car rentals on Expense Guide page.
