Railways
Brief Description of Railway System in India.
Indian Railway schedule book is called "Trains at a Glance" which costs Rs.25. This
book is available on bookstalls of all the important railway stations.
Broadly there are four types of trains in India.
First special luxury trains like "Palace on Wheels", "Fairy Queen" etc.
These trains are specifically for tourists who have deep pockets. Most of these trains
run from Delhi to Rajasthan.

Second type covers fastest trains in India. Rajdhani Express provides sleepers for long journeys
and Shatabdi Express has chair cars for short ones. These trains are fully air-conditined with
pantry car attached to each of them. Rajdhani Express coaches are painted in yellow color with
red stripes while Shatabdi coaches are painted in blue color with cream stripes. You will need to tell if you want vegetarian food or non-vegetarian.
Third type covers fast trains called Superfast and Expess trains. Superfast and Express are slower
then Shatabdi and Rajdhani. Express trains are similer to Superfast trains but have more halts so will take
more time to reach the destination. Both Superfast and Express trains have air-conditioned coaches, sleepers and second class coaches.
Most of them have pantry car attached. They are painted in scarlet color.
There are following classes of berths in descending order of their price i.e. 1A is the the most expensive one

Roadways
Majority of buses are operated by government. Normal coaches have vinyl seats while deluxe buses offer adjustable seats with headrest and facility of television
set which normally runs Indian movies. Please be informed that there are no washrooms/toilets in buses. You will have to wait till the bus reaches certain stop so it would
be a good idea to relieve yourself before starting journey. Departure
points are called "Bus Stand". All bus stands have shops where passengers can buy refreshments or meals. Fares are very reasonable.
