Pella
It is situated to the north-west of Amman and lies at sea level about one third of the way up to the Jordan Valley near a current water spring. It is one of the cities built by the Romans during their golden age in the second century A.D.

During the Byzantine period in the fifth and sixth centuries A.D., Pella became a Christian center and four churches were constructed in it. The great leader Ariston the Pellan was born in it in the first half of the second century A.D. He was the symbol of the Christian concept at that time.

Pella became an important city in the Islamic period in A.D. 535. It was one of the battle fields of the war between the Muslims and the Byzantines. It was known as " Fahl " during this period.

The Umayyad built some buildings and mosques in it. In A.D. 646 a massive earthquake destroyed it.
