Nature's Beauty

The sun rises in the brisk morning air
as the world slowly begins to awaken.
Dew kissed leaves softly sparkle,
shining in the new day's light.
White clouds fill the baby blue skies,
soft and light, in all shapes and sizes.
The sunlight shines down from overhead,
casting shadows that swirl and dance.
The day goes on as the daylight dims
and twilight settles over the land.
Brilliant colors fill the gradually darkening skies
Blues, pinks, lavenders, and oranges…
Like fingers reaching towards the heavens.
Do you ever stop and look around…
Take the time to see the beauty
That surrounds us everyday

The Key

The brilliant sunshine begins to fade
As the beach is covered in cool shade
The sky takes on a glowing hue
Of purple, pink, orange, and blue
Swirling together to form
The aftermath of the storm

No one thought they would ever glow
Unified in nature's wondrous show
Before the shelter of the bay
Which is peaceful and calm today
Not a wave is in sight
As daylight gives way to night

I sit in awe of God's great masterpiece
Its beauty grants my soul release
The bonds of sin are freed from me
I turn my life over to thee
Do with me as you will
Take my cup and drink your fill

The shackles that once held my hands
Are vanquished into grains of sand
No longer tormenting my life
I have conquered their awful strife
Banishing them to the past
Where all my worries shall be cast

I walk now proud and tall
Within the sanctuary of these walls
You walk here by my side
No reason left to fear or hide
Total trust is placed in you
For you know what I've been through

You have seen my heart's true tone
Meant for only you alone
Grant me the strength to persevere
Month after month, year after year
In your house I shall dwell
The glory of your deeds I'll tell

Following wherever you lead
Your call I'll always heed
My garment has been purified
Evil's chains have been defied
Heaven is on the distant shore
Through him we receive the key to the door

His Hope Lies Deep in Earth and Heart

I've planted the bulbs,
deep in the earth for next spring.
I could feel Springs hope,
though winter is surely near.
So His Hope lies in our hearts.

Garden Sonnets

A barren waste, a stretch of sterile soil,
A blemish on the spirit's solemn face:
So waxed my heart in wake of treason's toil,
For I had labeled it forbidden place.
No more would I entreat the luscious green
Which only served the serpent's form to hide;
No longer would provide pastoral scene
Where thorns of harsh betrayal might abide.
And yet, your winsome smile hath placed its seed
Without intent, upon that vacant earth,
And fed with quiet hopes and secret need,
A bud of rarest splendor found its birth.
Such tender grace doth blooming Love impart
When nurtured in the gardens of the heart!

If aught is truth in reaping what you sow,
Then I should find my soul an endless field
With seas of swaying blossoms all aglow,
For such a fertile hope hast thou revealed
In me, with but a brush of gracious hand,
That I suspect my cup shall overflow,
And spill my joy upon the thirsty land
To further urge my passion's seed to grow.
I shall in wonder stand, my soft regard
So rapt upon this wondrous verdancy,
And there remain, until my spirit's yard
Hath overgrown with you, and swallowed me.
A monument I'll stand, with blissful face,
Entwined in evergreen of Love's embrace.

You, A River

You
a river,
fields and woodland
surrounded,
here I reside
in spirit

Like a swan
that glides
imperfectly upon
the rise and fall
of you, I struggle to feed
and survive from
the banks of
your flow

I'll travel your waters
upstream
and
down
like a water-bird
I will live
the rush
of you

A Certain Perfect Disarray

Apple-mint sprigs, tiny leaves
unfold to sun in ancient prayer--
supplication
Ever strives to meet perfection...
daily dedication

Lemon tree in bloom this year.
How perfectly ironic.
Blossoms fall--lemon drops--
Heady scent--seductive tonic--
a certain perfect disarray...
think I'll let it stay that way...
(Some things should be
just what they are.)

Broad-leaf fern, pine-apple sage,
rose-in-bud, "Society's Page,"
(she used to be all the rage.)
spears of iris by the pond
and just the slightest curve of palm
behind the waterfall--
White ginger standing tall
and pots of basil
hunger for planting
bringing out an ache in me--
ever wistful--ever wanting--
a shovel full of upturned earth
droplets of rain, quenching thirst.
"Gentle hands are needed here,"
said the breeze into my ear.

"Ssshhh..." It whispered me aware.

Love's Philosophy

The fountains mingle with the river,
And the rivers with the ocean;
The winds of heaven mix forever,
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one another's being mingle:--
Why not I with thine?
See! the mountains kiss high heaven,
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:--
What are all these kissings worth,
If thou kiss not me?

Love

I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am
When I am with you.
I love you,
Not only for what
You have made of yourself,
But for what
You are making of me.
I love you
For the part of me
That you bring out;
I love you
For putting your hand
Into my heaped-up heart
And passing over
All the foolish, weak things
That you can't help
Dimly seeing there,

And for drawing out
Into the light
All the beautiful belongings
That no one else had looked
Quite far enough to find.
I love you because you
Are helping me to make
Of the lumber of my life
Not a tavern
But a temple;
Out of the works
Of my every day

Not a reproach
But a song.
I love you
Because you have done
More than any creed
Could have done
To make me good,
And more than any fate
Could have done
To make me happy.

You have done it
Without a touch,
Without a word,
Without a sign.
You have done it
By being yourself.
Perhaps that is what
Being a friend means,
After all.

A BLANKET OF DARKNESS

Twenty one months later
Where was your faith in me?

I dreamed of you
long before
I ever saw your face

Remember the night?
Tears in your eyes
You said “if we were meant to be”
“You would set me free”
“You’ll come back to me”
Yeah baby, remember when?

Could it be any harder
to watch me go, fade away?
Quick fix of hope, is what I needed

So once again,
I ride this blanket of darkness
Color me gone
Hear me in song
Each day, a part of me…disappears

And Sunshine,
I can only come back to you in thought
Wonder if you ever knew
I never ever told you…goodbye

SUDDENLY STANDING

Heartbroken by a love that was never thought to leave....
All those years wasted more than I could conceive.....
Children born out of love or once something so sweet .....
Were now destined to have a family incomplete....
Down on my luck knocked off my feet..
Opened my eyes to see you reach out for me...
Just for a moment I felt I was suddenly standing...

Your eyes saw my anguish acknowledged my pain...
In spite of the fact you knew another had caused this rain...
No thought to what might happen just a desire for me...
Saying that there was something about me only you could see....
So you reached out with love offered your hand...
Confusion clouded judgment in fear I ran..
You weren't one to give up and you won that race..
For now in my life you had earned your place....

Hit the ground before I knew where I was landing...
Then out of the blue you came and I was suddenly standing.

I AM LOVE

I am all the love for the past, now and the future.
I love the weak, the imperfect, the lonely, the living and the dead.

I love the poor, the modest, the compassionate, the unselfish, the humble, the meek.
I love all these things. For I too am and will be one of all these things.
Am I guilty of self love ?

MY GRETEST HAPPNIESS

This is my greatest happiness--
To spend my life with you,
Sharing trials and triumphs,
Joys and problems, too,
To kiss you in the morning
And hold you close at night,
To know we'll be together
Whether days are gray or bright,
Sharing all the little things
That make our daily life . . .
This is my greatest happiness--
To have you for my wife.

LOVE IS

Love is
being happy for the other person
when they are happy
being sad for the other person when they are sad
being together in good times
and being together in bad times
Love is the source of strength

Love is
being honest with yourself at all times
being honest with the other person at all times
telling, listening, respecting the truth
and never pretending
Love is the source of reality

Love is
an understanding that is so complete that
you feel as if you are a part of the other person
accepting the other person just the way they are
and not trying to change them to be something else
Love is the source of unity

Love is
the freedom to pursue your own desires
while sharing your experiences with the other person
the growth of one individual alongside of
and together with the growth of another individual
Love is the source of success

Love is
the excitement of planning things together
the excitement of doing things together
Love is the source of the future

Love is
the fury of the storm
the calm of the rainbow
Love is the source of passion

Love is
giving and taking in a daily situation
being patient with each other's needs and desires
Love is the source of sharing

Love is
knowing that the other person
will always be with you regardless of what happens
missing the other person when they are away
but remaining near in heart at all times
Love is the source of security

Love is the
source of life

ON WAY LOVE

A one way love can never thrive;
It needs reciprocation.
And so in order to survive
My love needs affirmation.

So throw your caution to the sky,
And let your heart command.
You'll find that it will not deny
A love which must expand.

Come now, to me, with open arms
And sweep me off my feet;
And then display for me your charms,
To make my love complete.

My one way love will terminate
Without your inspiration.
So, therefore, please reciprocate
With no more hesitation.

BECAUSE SHE WOULD ASK ME WHY I LOVED HER

If questioning would make us wise
No eyes would ever gaze in eyes;
If all our tale were told in speech
No mouths would wander each to each.

Were spirits free from mortal mesh
And love not bound in hearts of flesh
No aching breasts would yearn to meet
And find their ecstasy complete.

For who is there that lives and knows
The secret powers by which he grows?
Were knowledge all, what were our need
To thrill and faint and sweetly bleed?

Then seek not, sweet, the "If" and "Why"
I love you now until I die.
For I must love because I live
And life in me is what you give.

TRUE LOVE

True love is a sacred flame
That burns eternally,
And none can dim its special glow
Or change its destiny.
True love speaks in tender tones
And hears with gentle ear,
True love gives with open heart
And true love conquers fear.
True love makes no harsh demands
It neither rules nor binds,
And true love holds with gentle hands
The hearts that it entwines.

A RED RED ROSE

O' my Luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June;
O my luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune.--

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will love thee still, my Dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.--

Till a' the seas gang dry, my Dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun:
I will love thee still, my Dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.--

And fare thee weel, my only Luve!
And fare thee weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

TEHRE IS A LADY

There is a Lady sweet and kind,
Was never face so pleased my mind;
I did but see her passing by,
And yet I love her till I die.

Her gesture, motion, and her smiles
Her wit, her voice my heart beguiles,
Beguiles my heart, I know not why,
And yet I love her till I die.

Cupid is winged and doth range
Her country so my love doth change
But change she the earth, or change she sky,
Yet will I love her till I die.

Destiny

Somewhere there waiteth in this world of ours
For one lone soul another lonely soul
Each choosing each through all the weary hours
And meeting strangely at one sudden goal.
The blend they, like green leaves with golden flowers,
Into one beautiful and perfect whole;
And life's long night is ended, and the way
Lies open onward to eternal day.

THE ROBOT

Upon the stairway of despair,
Complete with broken love affairs
And promises that never came,
But faded with a touch of shame,
A pretty girl with golden hair
And innocence so sadly rare,
Strove to keep her head above
A way of life devoid of love.

Feeling pinned against Life's wall,
She chanced upon a robot tall
And said, "Please come and share with me
Whatever Fate has deemed to be.
I'm through with love, done with chances
Spirit crushed by past romances,
Just be a friend in word and deed.
That's all that I shall ever need."

"There's not too much from me to learn,"
Remarked the robot, in return.
"Emotions do not form a part
of my cold, solid-steel heart.
Whatever maker fashioned me
Did not permit my circuitry
Responsiveness to love or pain -
You're thoughts for me would be in vain."

"No matter", spoke the maid. "No more
Do I wish passion to explore.
Be someone I can come home to
When my exhausting day is through.
Count yourself a well-worn shoe -
A friend that I can slip into . . .
Protection from a stone cold floor . . .
For this I ask and nothing more."

Agreement made, he took her hand
And lived the life that she had planned,
Always willing, not demanding,
Aiding her with understanding
He made her smile with humorous wit
(As his restrictions would permit)
And, bit by bit, she came to feel
That he was more than iron and steel.

"I love you, robot", she at last
Replied when several months had passed.
"You're strength and quiet dignity
Have brought a wondrous change in me.
No more do I feel all alone,
And pray you must be flesh and bone.
Deep-set emotions you MUST feel
Within that outer coat of steel!"

"If I were able, I would say
I'm sorry I was made this way
But my design and programmation
Does not provide for that creation
Of feelings normal men may feel
That were not born of iron and steel.
I told you all this once before.
You have no right expecting more."

"Go, then!" cried she. "I will not live
Beside a fiend who cannot give!
Though I be battered by misuse,
Misguided trust and strong abuse,
At least the men I chose were real
And had the power to love and feel.
Of all the lovers I recall,
You are the cruelest one of all!"

The robot, indestructible,
Continues freely and at will.
Emotionless, apparently,
But, bearing closer scrutiny,
One can see a small tear streak
Down that cold, metallic cheek
As I reflect upon my life . . .
That lovely lady was my wife.

The robot, of course, was me.

I LOVE HIM

I love him, I dream of him,
I sing of him by day;
And all the night I hear him talk-
And yet he's far away.

There's beauty in the morning,
There's sweetness in the May,
There's music in the running stream;
And yet he's far away.

I love him, I trust him;
He trusteth me alway:
And so the time flies hopefully,
Although he's far away.

ONCE IN A LIFE TIME

Once in a lifetime,
you find someone special,
your lives intermingle,
and somehow you know . . .

This is the beginning
of all you have longed for,
a love you can build on,
a love that will grow . . .

Once in a lifetime,
to those who are lucky,
a miracle happens
and dreams all come true--

I know it can happen,
it happened to me, for I've found
my "once in a lifetime"
with you.

WHAT IS LOVE?

What is love? I heard you ask,
A pointed question,
A daunting task,
A challenge for a weary mind,
To see what gems that I may find.

What is love? My mind did say,
A caring touch?
A gentle way?
It's both of these, but so much more,
Numerous attributes, to explore.

What is love? I searched my soul,
A loving glance?
A hand to hold?
It is these things, but just one part,
Of the beauty that lies within the heart.

What is love? I asked my heart,
It seemed the best place,
Where I should start.
Is it fireworks, comets, or astral displays,
Which cause us to feel, so deeply this way?

"This is love," my heart replied,
"Listen closely to me,
And then you will see.
Love is not loud, it's a quiet sensation,
Not easily confused with infatuation."

"The beauty of love," it continued to tell,
"Is eternal endurance,
The absence of hell.
Unparalleled strength, in spite of adversity,
Protecting you with it's cloak of security."

"The gift of love," it sermonized on,
"Provides you with peace,
Like a golden-green morn.
It lives and breathes, for it is alive,
Where all your hopes and dreams reside."

What is love? You'll be glad to know,
Is the chance for two hearts,
To share and to grow.
Trust, compassion, and a listening ear,
Will dispel all your doubts, cast out all your fears.

What is love? It's simple you see,
It's essential as air,
For our souls to breathe.
It replenishes your faith, and self- esteem,
Allowing you to fulfill, all of your dreams.

When is it love? Your heart will know,
What you should do,
And where you should go.
It will guide your path, straight and true,
Be prepared for love, when it comes calling for you

TREASURED INNOCENCE

The treasured gift of refined love
I've found in you it seems
Which steals my breath, weakens my heart
And rivals maudlin dreams

With insight captured in my heart
Where fantasies are stored
I see that you and I both have
The blessing of the lord

Who knows that Romeo so loves
His dearest Juliet
Both fated with a sacred love
That neither will forget

We're scripted in each others lives
Where love has been unfurled
And so its innocence remains
The envy of the world

I DESIRE YOU

I feel you,
oh how I feel you,
so close
though you're so far away
your touch
your mind
your body...
your soul
next to me,
beside me...
with me
Your touching me,
mesmerizing me with your eyes
filling me with your touch
melting me with your sensuous kiss
I taste your kiss,
all day long,
though I have yet to actually taste it
I imagine,
fantasize
about you
and my desire,
my fantasies...
my needs
There's so much I desire -
to be with you
in every way possible...
next to you,
beside you,
with you...
touching you
I desire you...
