1. Elementary online tutorial
The purpose of these tutorials are:-
a. To gain experience in real-time electronic conferencing
b. To learn other techiques useful for collaborating with others
You only need to participate in ONE of the following two tutorials:-

Friday 16 November 1:45 pm
Monday 19 November 7:30 pm
.

To partipate, simply logon to Student conference. Make sure that you have got Word softward on your computer. Go to the chat facilities (menu at the top), then click on "M229 online tutorial".


2. Read the following papers:-
Hayward RSA, Wilson MC, Tunis SR et al. Users' Guides to the Medical Literature VIII How to use clinical practice guidelines.
A. Are the recommendations valid? JAMA 1995, 274; 570-4
B. What are the recommendations and will they help you in caring for your patients? JAMA 1995, 274; 1630-2.

3. Bring 3 or 4 pages of a national guideline relevant to your work. (If you do not have one, search for it using the links in the effective search for evidence page.) Appraise the guideline using the appraisal tool given to you in the last session.

4. Read the following paper:-
Levine M, Walter S, Haines T, Holbrook A et al. Users Guides to the Medical Literature. How to Use an article about harm. JAMA 1994, 1994; 271: 1615-1619.

5. Look at the online calculator for calculating the 95% confidence interval of a SIMPLE proportion in the EBP calculator page. Choose values of p and n, calculate the 95% confidence interval using the method we went through in the last session, and compare the results with the online calculator.

6. Bring your calculator in the next session so that you can use it for a revision worksheet.
