The Kronprinz was built in February 1914 by Germaniawerft in Kiel. She was classed as a battleship and was also the sister ship of the Markgraf. She was 575 feet in length and displaced 25500 tons. Her main armour belt was 13.8" thick and her decks had 3.9" thick armour plating on it. This ship had awsome firepower, 10 x 12" main guns, 14 x 5.9" & 3.45" anti aircraft guns and let's not forget the 5 submerged torpedo tubes. She was also capable of 21 knots which meant she was the fastest in her class. She was scuttled in June 1919 and slid beneath the waves at 1.15p.m local time.
The wreck today :She sits today up turned at Lat. 58°53 39' N, 03°09 46'W in 34 metres of water. Like most of the dives in Scapa she is big and impressive and her hull is cover in a vast amount of marine life. The least depth over her is about 12 - 15 metres. There are loads to see on this ship and it would take dozens of dives on her to see most of it. Her gun turrets are still in place and you also come across the occasional porthole. A torch is a must on this dive because most of the deck is in the shadow of the hull and if you do not have a torch it is pitch black.
