The wreck today : The Longwy now rests in 27m of water at position 55°03.25'N, 005°10.
600'W and rises to 20m. She is now fairly well broken up but still retains the shape and features of the ship. Due to her position offshore, the Longwy is best found by GPS(Global Positioning System ) or by the use of a DECCA.
The only part of the ship that stands out on a echo sounder is the boilers and this is the best place to drop a shot in order to anchor your boat. As you swim towards the stern it is obvious that the ship has collapsed to port as the port side has fallen away from the ship whereas the starboard side has fallen into the ship. The ship is covered in an impressive array of plumose anemones as well as huge shoals of fish which swarm about in the warm current. The tides around the Longwy are unusual so it is best to get the proper tide information before embarking on a dive as the current can be very strong. This is a good interesting dive but it rarley visited due to is position. The diagram and the photos have been reproduced by the kind permission of John Liddiard
