Introduction

Hello, class welcome to another day of Business Communication and Co/Op. Today you will be working on an exercise that will demonstrate your ability to follow instructions. Tomorrow you will have a guest speaker coming in from the city personnel office that would like to say welcome to out city; we just might have a job that's just for you. So what I am asking that you do is, do some research on the WebQuest and prepare an application letter and resume to turn-in by tomorrow morning. When you are through with this WebQuest you should be able to write effectively and should be able to follow the task for building your own application and resume. A copy of all your activities will be put in your portfolio, as you use the Internet. so lets get started now!



The Task

In this Webquest you will write and format an application letter and resume in preparation for a successful job interview. You will describe what should be included in an application letter and resume. You will complete a resume skill builder that will increase your vocabulary. You will complete a resume worksheet that shows how professional you really are, to be handed in. Then you will fill out a job application letter and resume after reviewing possible job openings.  Afterward, you will have a quiz over what you have learned and it will be submitted online after reading the assignments on the chapter. Be sure to follow the exercises on the Internet to focus in on the chapter assignments.



The Process

1. Review Chapter 14 in Business Communication titled: Employment Resumes and Application Letters p. 311-339; then complete employment resume checklist on page 338.
2.  Go to the following web site called: Job Search Methods for the 21st Century to get more information on developing a resume, applying for an interview, and potential resources.

3. Visit the Career Development website with OSCAR 2 to see which job best fits you and report your findings:

4. Review the JOB RESEARCH RUBRIC listed below and continue with your research on the internet. See if you can find a rubric on the internet similar to one listed below. Remember what constitutes an A.
5. Review the guidelines on proper written communications based on TEK GUIDELINES to be more prepared on your assignments.

Evaluation

This rubric will be signed by the interviewer, and will be based on your job interview, hopefully with the city. You will determine how prepared you are to find what you want? Then you will discuss with a classmate what you have determined based on your evaluation. You will then turn in your portfolio and evaluation at the end of the class period or when all the assignments have been completed. Your goals is accomplish this task with a 3 or better on the rubric on each section, the maximum score on the rubric will be a 20, as noted below for an A+. You must cut out the evaluation and give to your interviewer and have him sign it.

Conclusion

The purpose of this WebQuest was to help you identify what is needed in a resume and job application and to help you develop the skills and knowledge to be able to get hired?

    hired?
3. Do you now feel more confident when making logical decisions in the business world?
4. Do you now recognize true value of good business ethics?
5. Turn-in a one-page summary discussing these questions and of everything we did on the 
    WebQuest, giving me your positive feedback and what you learned! Make sure all your
    work is complete and is used with the Internet.
