Back in the 1960s a lot of music that made the top 40 was cool. I enjoyed hearing music from the Doors, Jimmi Hendrix, the Beatles and Crosby Stills and Nash and I enjoyed a lot of John Lennon songs. A lot of people who liked listening to this music were hippies By the 1980s, a lot of those hippies turned into hippycryets and yuppie scum. They must suffered severe brain damage from doing all those drugs and they no longer believed in the progressive ideas of these groups, but they still liked classic Beatles and classic Crosby Stills and Nash. They also weren't open minded enough to enjoy classic Sex Pistols and classic Dead Kennedy's who also had progressive ideas.
The best moments in history since this country began was August 15-17, 1969, which was during Woodstock. That was when this country was at its peek of being a good place. It was during the 1970s that this country began to go down the terlet. I noticed that by the mid to late 1970s that a lot of new music that was coming out sucked. 1 song that I couldn't stand was Freebird by Lynard Skynard. In a lot of ways, that ain't such a bad song, except radio stations had to play it 500 times every day. Also, Freebird was 1 of those songs that never seemed like it was never going to end. I also noticed that a lot of people who liked Freebird were redneck white trash assholes. I was so sick and tired of hearing Freebird over and over again, so I called the radio station WMET in Chicago to complain about it and the disk jockey turned out to be a fucking prick and he was extremely rude to me. He asked me if there is anything that I liked that they played and I told him to play Ted Nugent instead. I hate to confess to this, but I actually liked Ted Nugent at the time. That was before Ted Nugent turned into conservative, Republican fascist asshole pig who now claims that he is trying to lead the youth of this country to God, even though he enjoys murdering animals. Ted Nugent used to be cool because he had a picture of a penis on his Cat Scratch Fever album. I also used to like disco when if 1st came it because it was new original and creative, but it didn't take too long before disco really began to suck.
In 1981, I noticed that with the exception of a very few songs, most of the new mainstream music really sucked, but a lot of radio stations had their so called, "Electric Lunch" everyday remember the good stuff from the 1960s by playing Inagodadivida, Jimmi Hendrex, the Animals and Jefferson Airplane. I was wondering why there weren't any new musicians coming out with cool music? Coincidentally, 1981 is also the year that Ronald Reagan became president. 1981 was also the year that the Dead Kennedy's came out with their In God We Trust album, which contained wonderful songs such as Religious Vomit, Emperor Ronald Reagan and Nazi Punks Fuck off. They never played the Dead Kennedy's on the radio in 1981. I wasn't fortunate enough to meet anyone intelligent enough to like something cool like the Dead Kennedy's. I was truly cursed. It wasn't until 1985 when I 1st heard of the Dead Kennedy's when I happened to walk into a record store in Chicago and it had the lyrics printed out to their songs and I just had to buy that album.
It wasn't until 1984 before I discovered that a lot of new music that was cool was being censored from the airwaves. That was the year that I went to this club in Chicago called Medusas, which played a lot of cool music that I had never heard of before. They played all kinds of cool industrial and Goth music. Thanks to Medusas, I was able to discover cool music from groups like New Order, Depeche Mode and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Back in the mid 1980s, mainstream corporate radio stations were owned by such uptight conservative narrow minded assholes who wouldn't even play Depeche Mode. Frankie goes to Hollywood created a lot of controversy with their song Relax. Despite that, there were still a lot of clubs that played the Relax video from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The video takes place in a gay S&M leather bar and the most controversial part of the video is when this ugly fat man is standing on a balcony and he pulls down his underpants and a bunch of stuff squirts out of his penis all over the crowd below. That guy had a very small penis and his penis was soft too. I can't understand how so much stuff can squirt out of a penis while it's soft? That Relax video was banned from MTV because MTV sucks.
For awhile, there were some radio stations that actually felt that it was "safe" to play Relax after it started making it to the top 40, but it took until the early 1990s before some radio stations started playing Depeche Mode. There are still a lot of bands that are never played on mainstream commercial corporate radio like, Ministry, KMFDM and Skinny Puppy. When I 1st moved to Minneapolis in July 1994, I was amazed that there were 2 alternative commercial radio stations here, which included the Edge and Rev 105. Rev 105 did play a lot of original stuff that you wouldn't hear on any other radio station, but they were boring a lot of the time too. I really enjoyed the specialty shows that Rev 105 had like the Industrial Revolution. Then the powerful corporate scum came along and bought out Rev 105 and replaced it with X105. The Edge seemed to play more interesting stuff than Rev 105, but I also noticed that quite a bit of the "alternative" stuff they were playing sounded like country music and a lot of stuff they played was not alternative. Sheryl Crow and Jewel is not my idea of alternative music! Well, the same greedy money-grubbing corporate scum who bought out Rev 105 decided to replace the edge with 93X because they felt that they weren't making enough money by keeping the Edge.
That left only 4 stations left that continued to play any alternative stuff at all in the twin cities which includes, KVSC from St. Cloud. WMCN from Mac Calester College, Radio K and KFAI. Because KVSC comes all the way from St. Cloud, it don't always come in to good. WMCN plays the coolest stuff, but they have a listening radius of 1 mile from Mac Calester College. I noticed that any radio station that plays a lot of stuff that that is cool, has a very short listening range, while radio stations that suck have a listening range of a 100s of miles and it comes in loud and clear. Also, radio stations that suck are on the air 24 hours a day, while stations like Radio K have to go off the air when the sun sets. Radio K does a lot of good things, but the thing that bugs me about them is they are too PC when it comes to certain issues, but they still play a lot of good music that you won't get to hear anywhere else. I think that KFAI is the best station when it comes to allowing diversified stuff to be played on the radio. My favorite show on KFAI is the Root-of-all-Evil, which is on Saturday night-Sunday morning from 1AM-6AM. They play a lot of sick heavy metal on that show. They once played a song called 1st shit of the morning from a group called Gardy-Loo, which is my favorite song they ever played. 1st shit of the morning is about taking a shit and the guy who sings it describes his bowel movements in graphic detail. He mentions that his shit looks a lot like cream coffee when he gets diarrhea. I would MUCH rather hear someone sing about a bowel movement than the stuff that is played on a top 40 radio station which is shit! Up until the mid to 1990s, there was always music that was coming out that was cool, but it seems that ever since the 21st century began, virtually all the new music that has become popular sucks. I will talk more about that, next time.
Well, let's read what Pat read at Balls on October 20, 2001 when he talks about how he hates love ballads or go back to Pat's 2002 vision of the world page to read more great stuff.
