Do not confuse this line with the Amick family that emigrated about the same time on the Pink John and William. That family Amick is sometimes confused with ours on the Web. They came from the area of Alsace Lorraine, quit a way up the river Rhine. That family settled in parts of Pennsylvania and South Carolina. There is also an Emmick family that entered New York earlier and settle on the Hudson River. These families could only be very distantly related. Families descended from Henry and Nicholas are identified here.

Johan Georg Emig/Amey, born July 7, 1714 in Germany, To America in 1749 aboard the Christian, many passengers listed from "Wurtemberg, Alsasc & Zweibrach". He was in Buck's Co. PA before April 21,1751 when a son, Johan Georg was christened at the Tohickon Reformed Church, Bedminster Twp. Emig was spelled Erig on the ship list & Ihmig, Emig, Emich & lastly Amey in various records in Buck's Co. On Sept 22, 1765 he was naturalized. Emig was transcribed as Ernig as was his son's Heinrich two months earlier. The m in Emig being read as an r & n. Two years later on July 6, 1768 we find the same misspelling in the transcribed Warrant of Land issued to George Emig. The original warrant plainly reads Emig. (Application Warrants Haycock Twp. He named it Innovation. (D Bk AA #10, 433) This land went to his youngest son George after his death. Historian W. W. Davis states "Besides John Stokes, the original purchasers around Applebackville were Wm Strawn & George Emig, original for Amey". Georg died Mar 5, 1773, Springfield Twp. His will, Mar 2 gave his residence as Springfield (Bucks Will 1773, 315-16) He was buried in Old Cemetery, Trinity Union Ch, Springfield Twp. He willed his German bible, published in Basel in 1747, to Trinity Church. It is now at the Historical Soc.

"I can't tell you when our ancestors came from Europe to America, but they settled in Germantown, Philadelphia. The name at that time was Amick. Some of them called themselves Von Amick. Grand Dad (Henry) always referred to his ancestors as 'Low Dutch'".
Source: Maude Emmick History (written about 1960)

1860-1870 "There were relatives who had moved to Indiana before Grand Dad (Henry). They spelled the name Emmick. They persuaded Grand Dad (Henry) that Emmick (does she mean Amick) was a Dutch corruption of the name, which had taken place during their sojourn in Germantown. They claimed that we were not Dutch but German from Frankfurt, Germany."
